I hoping someone can give me some advice about Airtran. I've never had to cancel airfare before.

Anyway, my MIL was just diagnosed with leukemia and, therefore can no longer go on our trip June 19-26. She's insisting that we still go and for now plan on it.

My question is, since booking we've had a 1 minute schedule change for our itinerary. Does this in any way help with waiving cancellation fees?

Thanks in advance for any help you can offer.

Sorry to hear about your MIL. I hope she is doing well.

I don't think a 1 minute change is going to get anything waived for you. To get a flight change or cancellation without any penalties the time change usually needs to be significant -- like by hours.

I agree a 1 minute change won't be enough, but if you call and politely explain the situation, who knows how they'll respond, but I'd be prepared to have to pay that fee.

i'd call AT & ask. If you are a rewards member call that # & ask to speak to a supervisor.

If you don't receive the accommodation you want, i'd wait until the day before travel to cancel as it's not unreasonable to hope for a 'longer' schedule change (we've had them day prior)

good luck, sorry for your troubles:wizard:

Not for Airtran. I've had Airtran waive fees for changes in my flights that were only minutes long. A free cancellation for a one minute change would be asking a lot though...

Call and tell them what has happened. They may ask for documentation from the doctor. Something simliar happened in my family and though Delta didn't give us a refund, they did give us a credit to use on a future trip.

I agree with a PP - last year I was able to change my flights b/c they changed times but minutes - it was under 10 minutes, I believe.

Never hurts to ask. I just said "my flight times changed and they don't accomodate my schedule anymore....what can I do?"...

And see what happens.

I am very sorry to hear about your MIL - sending good thoughts your way..

I am sorry to hear abour your MIL, that said I think it's somewhat of an abuse of the system to avoid paying a cancel/change fee. Airtran is very flexible, but I always wonder how long they will continue to be with requests and changes over a few minutes.

Thank you all for your input and advice. I guess I will just call and ask. It's not a huge deal for us to pay the fees. I'd just like to give the family some good news, even if it's small. Thank you for all your well wishes. I appreciate it.

They won't make you pay a fee, the will just give you credit for the amount you paid with $75 deducted for the change. Then you will have 1 year from the day it was purchased to purchase a replacement ticket to use the credit amount. We had to cancel a flight last summer with Airtran.
