Airtran and stroller checking ?

We are taking a stroller to use at WDW for our 4 yr old. We do not plan to use it at the airport and we have it packed into a box to be checked. I see on the policies for Airtran that you can check your stroller at the gate at no charge. Can you check a stroller (in a box) at the check-in desk with your luggage for no fee?

yes as long as it is within the size requirements for checked luggage then it should be no fee

Well I sure hope so. I was planning to pay the baggage fee so that will be a nice $30 bonus (both ways).

I did email Airtran and ask. Haven't heard back yet. I figure if they say yes I'll bring the email with me for proof in case they try and charge me! I'll post back when I hear from them!

Thank you for contacting AirTran Airways via email.* You may bring a stroller to the gate for ease of travel through the airport.* The stroller may be gate*checked just before boarding the plane,*and will be returned to the aircraft jet way upon arrival at your destination.**Car seats and strollers may be checked at the ticket counter free of charge; however, any other items would be subject to excess luggage fees (i.e. portable crib high chair...etc.).*

In regards to your inquiry, you may check the stroller in a box for no fee.* However, if there are any additional items placed in the box with the stroller there will be a fee based on the size and weight of the box in addition to a baggage charge.

Yay! That saves me $30 in baggage fees!
