AirTran $25 voucher.. used to get seat assignments.

Bumping to see if anyone knows about the checked bags
Nope, we flew out on Aug. 15th with AirTran and we could not use the vouchers for luggage, only for a discount on airtravel if you book online or for your seats.

We waited for the 24 hour mark and checked in online and got our seats all together. No fee at the 24 hour mark or less. In the end, we decided to take an earlier flight and we all got to sit in Business class. This was from Milwaukee to Orlando. I went to the airport early to see if we could get on the flight and was told there were a lot of open seats. So we were officially on stand-by and our luggage was tagged as stand-by. AirTran would never let you do this if you had checked luggage, you could only do stand by with carry-on.
I paid $60 though for checked luggage. If you want to upgrade to Business Class $59X4=$236.00. So we came out ahead.

I spoke to Airtran couple days ago... There is a $15 fee for first checked bag and $25 for the second with a 50lb limit per bag.... If you are on the "elite" rewards plan meaning you fly ALOT you aren't charged OR if you upgrade to first class then you aren't charged...

The fees are one way so for us family of 4 that is an extra $120 RT from Richmond, Va to Orlando GRRRRRR I may learn to pack alot in a carryon and save the fees hehehe rolling all my clothes worked for a weeks worth and we have a washer and dryer at BLT sooo this could work for our 11 day trip....

Is this per person? So if I check in a bag, it's $15, and if my fiance checks in a bag it's $15?? So that's $30 total. Or do we have to pay $40 ($15 for the first bag, $25 for the 2nd?)

$30.

It's per person... so if DH and I check a bag each it'll be $30.
If DH checks 2 bags under his name, it would be $40 for him.

You are correct, the vouchers can not be used for the baggage fees. They can be used only for the flights themselves, or if you've already booked they can be used for seat assignments if you didn't do that. However, if you simply book by going to kayak.com first and clicking on the airtran flight you want through them, you'll be taken directly to airtran's site and you won't pay any seat assignment fees :thumbsup2 There are many threads on the transportation board all about this. And remember, if you are going to use these and haven't booked yet, book one way flights instead of roundtrip to save each way. You can use one voucher per person per flight :cool1:

They told me I could have an extra carry-on for Lucas... so I'm going to try to pack all of Lucas' clothes, diapers, general supplies into one of the carryons and attempt to get all of my and DH's stuff into one suitcase.

Notice I say attempt.

I'm doing that, also, to try to save on the amount of luggage we're hauling around with the kiddo.

We fly about once a year Airtran and have always carried on a small suitcase per person and a backpack or laptop case per person. So if you have a small diaperbag and a carryon size suitcase you will be FINE :) Roll Roll Roll all your clothes and you can easily fit everything for a week!

It is $15 per person first checked bag and $25 per person 2nd bag checked one way. So that would be a total of $60 roundtrip one bag for 2 people. STINKS!!! We are a family of 4 so our baggage fee is $120 round trip :(

I also used mine for our seat assignments. How do you get the $19 back? I was glad that I did our seat assignments today as my flight back to Indi had been cancelled and we were now on an earlier flight that had a layover. They hooked me up though. Be back at WDW 2 months from today. Can't wait. Hope my DS (1st year college student) can find it in his schedule to join us at least part of the time.

Even when we didn't buy seats, my family has always been put together. We look at the 24 hour mark, and at that point everyone has a seat assignment. If you don't like it, you can move them all around- if the flight isn't full. The best coach seats are not the ones they sell in advance anyway.
We've not always been so lucky with having the family seated together. DH and kids (DS-9 and DD-4) were separated on an Airtran flight back from FL earlier this year. They sat the kids together at the front of the plane and my DH was several rows back in the plane. The flight attendants did help my DH make sure my kids were doing alright, and complimented them on being so well behaved, but I would have been a little more stressed than he was if I were on the flight. I'm relieved we didn't have to risk it this time and gladly used the $25 voucher to ensure we're seated together.
