I know it's ages until we will be able to book for May 2014 but I'm just thinking about things.

Birmingham is probably our easiest airport to get to barring Stansted but don't think we'd be lucky enough to get a flight from there!! LGW is a bit further and not as easy to get to.

I wondered if any of the regulars have a preference over these two airports? Is one cheaper than the other? What about destination airport-which is the best as the departure airport may not go there?

Many thanks

I never plan any route. Easiest for us is MAN~MCO but I wait until a deal comes up for the dates we want. I would fly from any mainland UK airport to any airport from Miami upto Atlanta.
So far the furthest I have had to drive in the UK is Gatwick and the furthest in the US is Tampa.
I am looking for flights this Autumn (Oct/Nov) so far best I have found is MAN~MCO indirect at £460pp but not booking yet incase a better deal pops up.
Be flexible and an offer usually arrives with patience.

I have flown from Birmingham, Nottingham, Manc.
we fly out of Birmingham for the 3rd time in Sep and can say that it is grate even in 2010 when Birmingham airport was havein all the remodiling (turning into one big departure lounge) and security was very good took as long as thay needed to search, xray and random pat downs. flight was very good with Thomson we took off about 5 min late but landed at Sanford early by about 20min,

Sanford is a small airport in comparason to Orlando but its very good at its job.. Security go out there way to help and even cheer you up during the security passing. The entry officer we had last year was asking all the Qs you expect but at the same time talking about DW and what rides he liked.

THE DRIVE:
We dont drive so we had the transfers to the Disney Swan & and dolphin the drive took about 40 to 50 mins and was a nice drive we droped off about 4 other hotels 1st and then arrived at out resort.

If you are thinking Birmingham then think about a hotel as the Etap Birmingham airport has cost us only £25 for the night even tho we only live about 25 mile away it saves haveing to worry about getting up and if we bump into problems on the way to the airport.

Thank you both for your advice. When the time comes I will definitely shop around and see where's the best price.

Question then becomes package with someone like VA or DIY flights and villa?? DH is worried about booking a villa independently as there is no back up.

I didn't realise you could fly from Nottingham - it's also a possibility for us and is probably an easier one from Cambridgeshire than Gatwick (it's worth trying to avoid the M25 if possible!)

Just need the time to pass now...

I don't like villa holidays anyway, will never book another but if I had to I would go DIY without question, I want to know the exact villa I am staying in, has it got Wifi, what the decors like, correspond with the owner, see pics inside & out etc.
