It makes sense, but check on airfare first. We're flying from EWR into LAX since flying into Orange county was going to cost us $200 more PER ticket. Definately worth that $800 to drive from LAX to DL than fly into Orange County. We are also going to San Diego, but unforunately the hotel we wanted to stay at first, was booked, so we had to switch our vacation around. We're now flying roundtrip out of LAX because we're going on the Magic after our San Diego stay. Also, out of EWR, the flight into SNA (Orange County) isn't a good flight time, IMO I believe it leave EWR around 4PM, too late in my book. Also, with little kids, I didn't want a connecting flight, and to get into SNA at a reasonable time we'd have to connect. Look at all the options and then decide.

It does make sense and that is what we will be doing. I agree that you have to check all your options before you decide. I think that being on the west coast it is easier for me to find reasonable flights that work for me. I always fly Alaska to because they are the only airline that has non-stop flights to Orange County. Since we will be adding San Diego to our trip this year I checked into this option and discovered that I can get a non-stop to SD and a non-stop back from OC for the same price as round-trip from the same airport, so that works great for me. I also believe that it does not cost much more to rent a car from one location and return it to the other.

We can generally get great rates to SAN on SWA, so we often fly in and out of there. It's usually not a bad drive. This last time, we left Anaheim early, drove to San Fiego, walked around the beach by the Del Coronado (which was great!) and then caught our flight. San Diego and Orasnge County are great airports. San Diego I like especially, since it's big, but yet has less traffic. One of the few airports I've been too of late that doesn't make you cart your checked luggage to scanners set up in the middle of the terminal.

If you leave from John Waybe, note the plane will do something odd To meet noise standards, they will throttle down right after take off. It's kind of odd if your pilot doesn't happen to mention it to you!
