I've just heard on Sky that all London airports are closed this afternoon due to volcano ash from Iceland. :scared1:

It's not just London. Many UK airports have been affected by this, including those in Scotland and Northern Ireland.

most airports are now closed or limited flights

scotland , birmingham, manchester, liverpool , belfast , isle of man and the list goes on and on

:scared1:

if you had posted this on the 1st i would have been convinced it was a joke ;)

I've just seen this also , got to feel sorry for the people that were flying out today , but safty must come first.

Birmingham is deffo closed, we live right next to it and the usual flights weren't going this morning - infact it was nice and quiet!
I really feel for the people who are stuck though - after our experience in January with delays I can honestly say I wouldn't wish it on my worst enemy!

I've just turned the tv on and am watching the news, I thought it was some kind of a stupid joke for the first few seconds
all uk flights could be closed by midday....

I agree. Also, while this is a huge disappointment and inconvenience for many, you've got to consider those poor people in Iceland who have been forced out of their homes because of the volcano.

i feel really bad for all the people who are either stuck abroad or cant go on their holidays. gary's stuck in glasgow at the mo (he flew up for a funeral), was due to fly back this morning, and is now stuck up there. luckily for him, he's now back at his parent's house, but i know theres going to be a lot more people who are not as lucky.
think this will cause a lot more disruption in the next few days, between the ash itself and that fact that none of the planes are in the right places now.

When you consider volcanic ash in the air, safety is paramount, as ash in aircraft engines is not good as was shown in 1982 on the BA flight near Indonesia.

Hoping the wind shifts direction soon and the ash clears quickly.

My hubby is due to get on a flight later today - I guess I may not be seeing him as expected then! :guilty: Oh well safety first!!!

I feel sorry for all involved, after the hassle I had in January with the flights being cancelled due to the snow I know what bedlam it will be at the airport today!!

Fingers crossed it does not go on for too long for all the people waiting to jet off on holiday.

I feel for anyone who was planning on jetting off on holiday today, I hope they're not grounded for too long

Just heard on the local radio station that Manchester and Liverpool are now closed until 18.00!!

It is so quite outside - we are normally on the flight path and are about 20 minutes away from both airports.

Feel so sorry for all those people who were due to go to Florida today - imagine being in Florida for an extra day:)

they have stated that it is unlikely that bans will be lifted at 18.00.
internet sites:surfweb: are saying that this could last for weeks:scared1:
the worst thing is as this is an act of god, no insurance payout!!
hope people who are stuck are at least comfortable, i would not want to be stuck at the airport with my 3:cloud9:
tracy

According to the radio news so many people pass through UK airspace or stop over at UK airports that there are people stranded at airports all over the world who don't even want to get to the UK.

It's not just UK airspace though. My brother in law just told me Belgian airspace was closing too, so I guess a large part of Western/Northern Europe is closed.
