What options are available for transportation for my family to and from my resort hotel. I saw that FL tours is a sponser of this site. Just looking for other options and who not to use.

You can use DME or you can book a towncar service. I have used Fl Tours several times and been happy with them. I've also used Tiffany Towncar several times but not for about 3 years...so I can't say about their present reputation.
You will find that people have used different services, and if they are happy with them, they stick with that company. Just about every towncar company has had something less than complimentary said about them. It's when you see the same complaints cropping up about the same company that you have to worry.
I'm sure you will get lots of suggestions here.

Are you specifically looking for a private car service ride, or are you just looking for ANY way to your resort?

Disney offers a free service called Disney's Magical Express. It's a bus ride (plush motorcoach) to your resort; there will be others on the bus, from your resort and from up to a max. of 3 other resorts. Using DME will also allow you to SKIP BAGGAGE CLAIM and enjoy automatic delivery of your luggage to the inside of your resort room, whether you're in there or not (you don't have to wait for it!). Once you check your suitcases at your home airport, you don't see them again until they're inside your room at Disney.

Do you need a stop for supplies / food? Are you going to want to travel offsite?

If so, then you will want a rental car or a car service. Car service runs in the $100-150 range, a rental car will run that and more depending on time of year, demand etc.

If you are going to stay at WDW and not leave then Magical Express is a pretty good choice. After all It's FREE.

I have heard horor stories about the Disney Magical Express like not getting bags for hours after checkin. Plus i do want to stop on the way in to get some "supplies".

The $100.00 to $150.00 price given above is round trip service and usually includes a stop to pick up groceries or brew you might need while at Disney. $100.00 is probably the average price of rides to Disney from MCO.

Eric,

You need to stay on the phone all night to help out Sanjaya. He didn't do good tonight.

Yes, it does take several hours for your bags to arrive, and depending on your travel style depends on whether that is a horror story or not.

For us, it is no problem. If we arrive in the middle of the day, we just drop our carryons with bell services and head for the parks, our bags have always been waiting for us in the room when we return several hours later.

When we arrive late at night, we just have what we need to go to bed, and also what we need to get dressed in the morning in our carryons and request our baggage be delivered sometime the next day after we head out in the morning.

As far as getting supplies, we don't need much and usually stop by the Hess Station across from DTD and pick up some water, soft drinks and beer, which are priced at "real world" prices.

Alternatively, there are several very good grocery delivery services, that will shop and bring your supplies to your resort for you, for a nominal delivery fee (10 - 30 dollars). www.gardengrocer.com looks to be a good service from what I can see on their web site and also from stories here.

Also, with the USPS flate rate Priority Mail shipping box, I can also ship those larger bottles of toiletries to my room that don't fit in the "TSA-approved" zipper bag.

Now, if you would be more at ease collecting your own luggage at the airport and taking a private car service, and shopping yourself for your own "stuff", then by all means.

It is your vacation, and as my daddy says "free takes care of a whole lot of ugly", my hubby says he'd rather pay extra for something to get better service. (So I get to be the mediator, and try to do something in the middle;) )

Tips are optional!!

Some companies, particularly for limos (as opposed to towncars), add on an automatic gratuity/tip/service fee. Make sure you don't inadvertently double tip.

I have used Sunray Transportation several times in the past three years. They are awesome. It is $90 round trip from MCO to and Disney resort and that includes a free grocery stop. We have always stopped at the Publix near SeaWorld.

It's only a horror story if you don't know to expect it. In the DME literature mailed to all guests with DME reservations, Disney says to expect the luggage within about 3 hours after check-in. I've read angry screeds from people livid over the fact that their luggage wasn't waiting for them in their rooms when they checked in. If they had read the materials mailed to them, they would have known to expect it rather than be angry about it.

Also just keep in mind that there are grocery delivery services that deliver to WDW resorts. Did it twice for stuff for my wife and me and our two little ones.

I would suggest you make your transportation choice based on the level of service you want and whether or not you want to pay extra for it, rather than on supposed "horror stories." A car service is great if having private transportation and personalized service is a priority to you. DME is great if not paying extra (while still getting efficient transportation) is a priority to you.

I know, I know! Of course they are optional, unless you end up booking with a company that automatically adds one. But, most people do tip depending on the service. I just didn't want anyone to think that the total they got in their quote was the absolute be all, end all. Of course, no one has to tip...completely optional as Edd said.

OP - We've used Tiffany Towncar before DME was offered, and it was fine and including tip was in the $100-$150 range roundtrip. Then we went when DME was offered and loved it! We would happily do either again (hate driving when on vacation, so no to renting cars) but it was nice to save that towncar money and instead have a great couple of meals at the Poly! Couldn't care less about grocery stop and didn't use it when we had the TT service.

As far as getting bags late from DME, we had a dinner reservation the night we flew in, so we just brought a carry-on bag with our dinner clothes and changed at the hotel. Our bags did come before dinner, but always best to be prepared.
