Are children required to get patted down by same sex security guards?

Since our local airport seperates the males and females into 2 seperate lines , will our 4 year old son need to go with his dad or can he go through with me? :confused3

When my ds, now 14, was a baby, we travelled frequently, as we still do, between Toronto and the States. My first time with him, two security agents asked if was a boy or girl. I thought "How nice, they're being friendly". Uh, nope! They just wanted to know whether the female or male agent on the end was going to have to pat him down. He was about 5 months old. At that time, they were looking for drugs in the diaper. ;)

So, to answer your question, they've been patting down children for at least 14 years. Send your 4 year old through with his dad.

What airport do you fly out of?

My niece has never had anyone pat her down! I would not be comfortable if they did that. She walks through the scan thing before me and then I go through. Nobody has touched either of us.

As awful as it would be to have one of my kids patted down, you just know that is what some sick person is doing (hiding drugs etc with their kid).

Air travel security has changed dramatically since December 25, 2009. Pat downs are a regular part of the security process now. That doesn't mean that you will definitely receive a pat down, but you should be prepared for things to be different than they were before (including pat downs for adults and children alike).

My seven year old is extremely anxious about airport security at the best of times. He likes things to be as he expects them to be, and he won't like the fact that things have changed. We're doing our best to prepare him, but it's hard, given that we don't know exactly what is going to happen.

drugs with/ meh what about drugs in? i kid you not. on one of my moms trips to jamaica, either going down or coming home a mom was pulled over as she had put drugs in her baby. i cant remember the details now, but by the end of the flight the baby was no longer consious...people will try anything!

We flew Edmonton to Nova Scotia in 2002 and my 9 month old daughter was patted down. No big deal.

I wonder when we'll hear about problems with people being patted down by an agent of the same sex, but of different sexual orientation than the person flying.
When we go down to WDW in March, I'll tell them that I'm gay and that I demand to be patted down by a woman. I'd like to see the expression on my wife's face.

Now that's funny:lmao:

We just flew two weeks ago out of Edmonton and my son went with my husband and got patted down (And in detail! I was surprised!) and my daughter and I had to stick our hands in our pockets and get this weird swab thing done.

Not really a big deal... just kinda weird. :S

The swab is for explosive residue....they will also randomly walk through the check in lines and touch luggage with a cloth that does the same thing.

Well, at least this next trip I will be taking the other niece. She won't have a clue as she has never flown before. I guess I will have to come to grips with someone touching me. Maybe by the time I go they will have those body scanners instead! I think I would rather have that.
