Airport Security and Family line?

Orlando has 3 seperate lines at security, and one is a family line. However, when we went thru in November, they were just shoving you into whatever line was smallest.

You do need to keep your wits about you going thru security in Orlando. We were a family of 6, 3 adults 3 kids, and they put us into 2 seperate lines. Then they wouldn't let the 3 of us, who got thru our line way ahead of the other 3, wait for them at the screening area. They made us ride the tram to the other section of the airport. Not trying to scare you, but we were NOT happy, and I just wanted to give you a heads-up.

I don;t like to get separated, so I usually keep all of our boarding passes. (Even when flying with my parents) They will not separate you from your boarding pass.

We fly out of McNamara usually cause we fly NWA. Parent flew out of the new terminal. We check in online and get there about 1 hr before flight. We live 20 min from airport, so parents come to our house, drop off car and we take the to airport. We get them there about 1 hr before flight too. They said the new terminal wasn't busy either. Both of the flights were during the week early in afternoon. I think 2 hrs before for a Sunday am flight is plenty of time. If you are in the McNamara terminal you can keep the kids busy by riding the tram and I think somewhere in there is a fountain. I don't know whats in the new terminal.

I do not believe that Detroit has a family line in either the McNamara nor the Smith terminal. However, we have flown out of Detroit with our children several times and have never had any troubles. I just make sure to take off their jackets and shoes ahead of time. I go through first with each child following me and my husband handles the double stroller and car seat and carry on bag. I immediately get the kids situated again and it isn't a difficult process in the least, unless of course you are one of the randomly selected people to be thoroughly searched and well, with children, it is not remotely pleasant. But assuming that doesn't happen to you, the regular line is fine.

We leave out of the Minneapolis airport, and there is no family line. But the TSA's are very helpful! I often travel with my 2 children alone, DS (5) and DD (2 1/2). They are very patient, and sometimes help me get all of my belongs off of the belt. We always have a stroller and a carseat. Make sure everyone's pockets are empty. I would definately explain the process ahead of time. Good luck! :thumbsup2
