We're leaving early tomorrow morning for our trip to the World!

We need to be at the airport before the kids usually have breakfast so I wanted to pack some breakfast foods to eat in the area by our departure gate because I'm too cheap to buy airport food.

Will security give us a hard time bringing pre-packaged food through? I had one bad experience just after 9/11 where a security guard made me chug my Diet Dr. Pepper before going through the line and I've never taken food through again. :sad2:

I was thinking of doing juice boxes, Gogurts and a granola/breakfast bar for a sort of Continental breakfast. Has anyone had any problems? Any suggestions?

Thanks

I have had no problems bringing food with us to eat at the gate as the sun comes up. I know there is no problem bringing it on the plane and many of the food shops have signs saying things like "take it with you".
I would have it in one bag and just put it in a bin as it goes thru the xray machine.
Have a safe and FUN trip to WDW.

Thanks! I'll pack it all in a grocery bag so we can just throw it away when we're done.

Make sure your kids don't carry it and go through the detectors! We were leaving WDW at lunchtime and my dd was hungry, my Mom had a clear bag of pretzels. My Mom gave them to my dd right before she was going through the detectors. IT WAS A CLEAR BAG OF PRETZELS!!!!! My dd (only 5) was escorted to the side (they let me go with her) and she was made to take her shoes off and they used the wand to scan her, it was unbelievable, it was a fr**gen bag of pretzels!!!!

Just a personal experience with food and an airport!

Have a wonderful time, we have 6 more months to wait.

You should have no problems as long as it goes thru the xray scanner. I have brought salads and BK/MD's etc thru to nibble on the plane.

Just remember not to bring a plastic knife, forks and spoons are OK.

There was a time when open bottles of liquid were suspect, and treated as the OP indicted. That still could occur, so best practice is to make sure all drinks are sealed in original packaging, as appropriate, when going through security. Of course, the need to put everything through the x-ray handles some of that.

I not only bring lots of snack foods in my carry on (Peanuts, Breakfast Bars, Beef Jerky - I'm hypoglycemic!) I also bring champagne, and wine! (and water) I put them in a tray to be scanned, and never had a problem (I would say at least 5 times) I completely forgot about the chugging open bottles after 9/11 (remember the mom who brought mom's milk in a bottle?!) well, one time I put the fixin's for Cosmopolitan's in a rubbermaid container! (what can I say? we party in our rooms, not in a bar!!)

I don't think it was the pretzels, rather there may have been someone suspicous looking further back in the line and they wanted to pick on a few other people at random as well so nobody could say they were singled out because of the color of their skin.

Or maybe it was the pretzels, that brand may have given off an odor that tripped some sensor in the metal detector or somewhere nearby.

Or maybe her shoes looked suspicious. Did most people in line take off their shoes to put in a bin to go through the X-ray?

They told me it was because of the pretzels being given to her as she was about to walk through! :confused3 Well you live and learn, that won't happen again, the pretzels being given anyway! LOL

I flew to RDU in April and forgot to take my watch off both ways and it didn't sound anything. Had to take shoes off at RDU. Been wanded down for the underwire, and overalls too. If I did get my rings off bet I wouldn't get them back on....LOL Never have taken them off. About food---- I always take food. This last trip we had a little sack cooler that had 6 cartons (1 pound each) of frozen southern BBQ bet that looked funny in the X ray. and 12 cans of pop in Hubby's backpack. Anyway just get there early and do what the signs say. Good luck!

Well, George W. Bush nearly choked to death on a pretzel ... maybe it was the fact that it was a bag of pretzels that aroused suspicion.

About a year ago, DH did have to take a sip of his coffee going through security. They didn't make him drink the whole thing, but they did make him drink some of it.

We have had snacks in a backpack going through security though and all was fine. Same trip he had to drink the coffee in fact.
