princess: Hi

Were travelling in may/ june and this time are planning on driving ourselves to the airport, have always been dropped off before but now theres so many of us is easier to drive ourselves! :yay:

Were considering either just parking or hotel the night before and parking at gatwick, does anybody have experience of this?
There seems to be a few diffrent options park yourself and get a transfer or someone meetyou and take the car or a car paerk a bit further, also not sure how hotel plus parking would work, any suggestions/ or experiences would be appreciated.:)

(looking forward to my trip - bought some bits in the sale for it already x):cheer2:

We are staying at Hilton the night before for £148 including parking - are you flying virgin, if so you can check in the night before.

I recommend staying the night before as you are relaxed and not stressed about worrying if there are any roadworks or accidents before you get to the airport.

www.holidayextras.co.uk is a good website. If you are flying with virgin and have a frequent flyer card you can get a discount at the Hilton.

While parking at or near the Airport appeals can I add a word of caution, I have done this a few times and had a couple of bad experiences, once we returned to a dead battery and could not start the car, alarm set off by planes? I don not know but we had to wait for the RAC to get us going.

Also the return flight is overnight and if like me you find sleeping on a plane very difficult then like me you may 'nod' on the drive home. Ever since we have taken a cab to and from the airport as it is about the same cost as two weeks parking.

Have a look at The Forest Bed and Breakfast near Crawley. http://www.theforestbandb.co.uk/Rates.php
It was great, very cheap, included parking and transfers to Gatwick. They dropped us off and picked us up on time, and we would use them again. The rooms were comfortable and clean and the breakfast was great.

hi yes we are flying virgin, so will remember that check in thing!(do we need to take kids to check in or could i just send hubby over ?)

It is a night flight but hubby will sleep anywhere so its not a problem plus its not even an hour if traffic is clear x

What are the transfers like then? is it a coach? do you have to pay, or do you get your own cab?

I use meet and greet parking at Gatwick - it's great with the kids. You drive right up to the airport terminal and a driver is there to meet you with a trolley. He takes your car and parks it, and when you get back he's there at the airport terminal with your car.

The company I use is help-me-park.com - great service. I'd never park any other way now. Just wish I known about them when my kids were really young. Spent my youngest daughter's 2nd birthday at Magic Kingdom.

Have a great holiday, Paula

Hi we parked last year in the NCP at Gatwick for two weeks it cost £101 - and then we just hopped onto the bus to the terminal.
I thought the cost was good - Bus was a little crowded to get to Terminal we had to stand and HANG ON - oh and hang onto DD and suitcases.
My parents who went on the same trip did a meet and greet - brilliant!
Cost another £45 they litreally pulled up outside the terminal - man checked the car, dad signed and they drove it and parked it.
Inbound while we were in the baggage claim my dad called them and as he got to airport front there was his car and they even packed his luggage.
We booked these two both on the web.

Only thing with the parking was the drive home - 2 hours early morning after a night flight on the M25 - wasn't a good thing really.
For our trip this year we haven't decided we might try the airport coach flyer from Bristol so we can sleep on the way home :)

We paid £118 for two weeks' meet and greet parking with help-me-park.com last year.

The Hilton at Gatwick (at the south terminal) do a park and fly package which includes either meet and greet or off-site parking. You could arrange to have the meet and greet package, stay at the hotel after your plane lands and get the driver to drop your car back to the Hilton the next day instead of the airport.

Happy planning, Paula

Not heard that one before - how do you get the discount please :)

Ring up virgin and ask them for the number for the Hilton, if you are a frequent flyer and they will give the number and you need to quote your flying number to the hilton receptionist and only pay the month before you fly.

Thanks for all the advice, think we will try the hilton night before with meet and greet for the return journey, not so far to drive hubby will be ok, !

Now all i need to do is RE - new kids passports, typically they run out 2 days b 4 we travel!

If they get the new style passports do they still need other visa paperwork etc? does anyone know

thanks xx

(anyone here out there same time as us?)
