Airport/Mears/Shuttle Information Needed

We have a little dilemma here. Someone must have had this problem/issue before and I am hoping there is a good solution. DH is traveling on different days than the rest of the family due to work issues. When he arrives, he will take Mears to Marriott Grande Vista to meet us. A few days later we will be transferring to Wyndham Palms Resort (timeshare). Mears does not service this resort, nor do they have an airport shuttle. A taxi will cost $45 which we would like to avoid.

I have two questions. The first is, what has anyone else done in a similar situation? Second, has anyone gone to a Mears supported hotel (that they were not staying at) just to be picked up from there, and how did that work?

Thanks so much.

Since Mears charges per person, you might be better off with the taxi or calling a town car service, depending on how many people you have. A friend and I did a Mears one way to the airport in February from POFQ and it was $16 each plus tip. If it's you, your husband and a couple kids, it will probably be more than $45 for a Mears one way.

Hi Debbie, As I wrote above, he is travelling on different days than the rest of the family. That is why we would prefer to avoid a $45 taxi trip for a solo rider. Thanks for your thoughts, though.

I thought you were looking for transportation between the first resort and the second resort and then back to the airport for the whole family. How are the rest of you getting back and forth?

The rest of us will be driving. He is the only one flying. The problem is that his flights were switched to the middle of the day which would really mess up the schedule we'd planned if we go back and forth to MCO. We're trying to avoid that if possible as there are plans made with others who would also be inconvenienced if changes were made.

Thanks.

Have DH travel without luggage (you should take it) and have him take Mears to wherever you're going to be (theme park). If you're going to be in the resort call the resort and find the nearest Mears serviced hotel. Pick him up there, have him walk or tak a cab.

Hmmm. He needs to take his luggage back home with him that day. I was hoping that he could come spend part of the day at the park with us and then take himself and his luggage to one of the Disney resorts and pick up Mears there. Is that not possible? Can he only be picked up from the resort if he's staying there? I will check the Mears website again to see which Disney hotels are serviced by Mears.

Has anyone called Mears and arranged to be picked up at a hotel other than where they had stayed?

Thanks.

Mears will pick him up from any Disney resort. Just figure out which one you want to dump him at, call Mears and find out what time they want to pick him up. They will proabably want to pick him up HOURS before the flight. There is a theroy that you should tell Mears you flight leaves 30 minutes to an hour later then it actually does. I don't know if that is a good plan or not.

That shouldn't be a problem, just call Mears directly at least 24 hours before and make a reservation. Mears services all Disney resorts, they have regular pickup schedules, usually every half hour during the day. Their pickup time is really early. We had a 5:00pm flight and they suggested a 1:25pm pickup at POFQ! I asked for the next one, which was 1:55pm even though they advised against it. We were at the airport by 3:00pm even though the bus was late and we also stopped at OKW.
