Need some disney expert advice please. We are surprising our 2 girls with a trip to wdw in jan. We are going to pick them up after a half day of school with the bags packed and show up at the airport, and only then let them know what we are up to. So...we have an afternoon flight arriving to MCO at 6pm. We're not renting a car-would like to do Disney Express but our ressies don't start until the next day.

Do we stay at an MCO hotel and take DE early the next morning to WDW, store our luggage, and get to the parks or should we do something else?

Any good MCO airport suggestions?

Thanks :dance3:

I am not sure where you are staying when you arrive at Disney, but, it might be less expensive to start your stay at Disney a day earlier, the hotels at and around MCO are VERY expensive. If memory serves, there is only one actually in the airport, the others would require you to take a shuttle or cab.

There are plenty of choices near the airport and in all price ranges http://orlando.airporthotelguide.com/

One hotel that can be had for less than $75 is:
La Quinta Inn & Suites
Orlando Airport North
7160 North Frontage Rd
Orlando, FL 32812
Phone: 1-407-240-5000

Oh yes, free airport shuttle (5am-11pm), free breakfast & free wifi.

And Disney hotels are cheap? :lmao:

The Hyatt in the Airport is fairly expensive. However there are LOTS of other options. La Quinta, Fairfield Inn, Hilton Garden Inn, etc...

I have done the Fairfield several times. My brother did the LaQuinta. Neither of us had any compliants. They have quick shuttles back and forth to the airport, free breakfast and good rooms.

Over on the Orlando hotels board there's a thread on Priceline. In there are some instructions to help you get the Hyatt on Hotwire. With Hotwire you can specify that you have 2 adults and 2 kids when you book which gets you two beds, that's not guranteed on Priceline. I got the Hyatt a few weeks ago for $69 or so....

We're in the same situation as you are in. We have a late arrival into MCO and our WDW ressie starts the next day. We will spend the night at the Best Western airport for 100$ tax in w. bkfast for a room for 5 that we need. Much cheaper than staying at a Disney resort (around 220 $ w. no bkfast).

Perfectly all right to spend the night at an airport area hotel and take Magical Express the next morning to check into your resort.

Just before making your advance DME reservation pick a flight, any flight, any airline arriving in Orlando about the time you will be back from the hotel. This may speed up making the reservation. (The DME reservationist may or may not ask for it.)

You will need to not use the yellow DME baggage tags and to claim all your baggage at the carousels.

No, Disney resorts are definitey not cheap. I was looking at it from the perspective of having 2 very excited kids and schelpping bags back and forth.
They would be at Disney bright and early the morning after their arrival and could hit the parks.
Good price on the Hyatt, btw.

I've stayed at the Hyatt for less than $100 for one day when we had the cruise. I looked around and I joined the Hyatt's frequent stay program (haven't used it since this was back in 2006) but it got me the rate. But there are always the AllStars or Pop Century you can stay there for a day and have the Disney ambiance the girls will love it. You could try for All Stars Movies or Pop Century and then you can have them move your luggage to wherever you are staying. I've stayed at the Fairfield near Newark airport and it was very nice, I would assume that the one in Orlando is the same and I had no trouble finding a rate lower than $100. I've done this several times when my flights are super early, I like to get a hotel near the airport with free airport shuttle. You can also go to Tripadvisors.com and look up the different reviews of the surrounding hotels and you should be able to figure out where you can stay that will suit your needs. Have a wonderful trip. HTH :thumbsup2

I agree. Probably 7 or 8x now we've gotten Hyatt through Hotwire for $54-74 + tax. Since you can't make it show up there, it's good to have a cancellable plan B. We have stayed at the Fairfield Inn too, very reasonable with AAA rate. All Marriott brands allow cancelation with no penalty up until 6pm on check in day so you could check HW right up until you leave. A couple times, the Hyatt didn't show up until 1 week prior. We love its convenience and not having to deal with shuttles. Also there's a food court in MCO so plenty of choices to eat.

I love the Marriott brand hotels. I especially love Residence Inns. We stayed at the Airport RI for about $80 one trip.

OP, make sure to make your DME reservation for the day you check in at your resort. Have your hotels shuttle drop you off at the DME welcome area, check in with DME and off you will go.

Have a great time.
