Hi,

I've just rung Virgin to pre-book my seats for 28 April. We're travelling PE from Manchester. We've been allocated seats 19A&C.

The lady on the phone said that the aircraft type would be a 747-400. When I've checked on Vigin's site there are no seats numbered 19 in PE. Has she told me the wrong plane?

Can anyone help please?

I'm sure the planes they use from Manchester are 747-200's

Virgin's site doesn't show the 200 but doing a seating plan search in general may locate one.

Regards

Sean:crazy:

Yes the two Manchester planes "Honey Pie" and "Island Lady" are 747-200's.

Row 19 is correct as PE on these planes starts at row 17.

I had the same query as we have 18G&H and 19G&H.

Is PE on the upper deck of the Manchester 'planes?

Can anyone confirm that PS2 handsets are available on these planes in PE as I have made promises to the kids!

I have read mixed reports of the Manchester service as the planes appear to be a little on the 'mature' side.

Anyone care to comment?

Thanks in advance.

Hi Rob,

The Manchester 747-200's are configured differently to the rest of the 747-400 fleet.

First or Club Orlando as it is called from Manchester takes the upper deck and the first rows at the front of the plane. It is separated from PE by the galley which starts at row 16 or 17. The first row of PE at the bulkhead is great but it can't be prebooked as they have to wait for skycot and special needs PE passengers to check in before they are released to other PE passengers.

Yes there are playstation games but it is not PS2 it is a special aircraft version but has loads of games to choose from. The inflight TV/movies on Virgin have plentyof channels you can choose from 8 TV and 6 movies which play at once.

The Virgin office staff jokingly refer to the Manchester planes as "JURASSIC CLASSICS" a reference to their age which I believe is around 20/25 years. However we spoke to crew members who reassured us that the 747-200 was held in high regard by the pilots as one of the safest and robust aircraft ever built and that age was not a concern. We flew Club last year and the interior of the plane upstairs was a litte shabby but there was loads of room to stretch out. We also had to endure a coulpe of serious delays because of technical problems with the planes. However this was an exceptional set of circumstances and we have been given a very generous goodwill guesture for a future flight by Virgin Atlantic which is enabling us to return to Orlando much sooner than we thought. It was inconvenient and frustrating at the time but it the problems were explained to us and we will fly again on these aircraft with every confidence.

One thing we have have always found with Virgin is the service onboard the plane is very good and the cabin crew always very pleasant.
