Airplane seat for toddler

Thanks Lisa Loves Pooh

I have noticed you are a fountain of information!!!

I am going to bring my car seats because we are renting a car for 8 days. Renting the car seats from the car rental company is about $8/a day x 8 x2 = $124 (that is more than it costs to purchase 2 car seats on sale at Wal-mart!!!

I just wanted to make sure the car rental company would allow me to use my own!

Thanks again
Kathy

My 3 3/4 yo (now 4) flew overseas without a car seat. FAA in my reading of their policy on this and my interpretation is okay with this--basically, it is okay. It was explicit about the younger ages. She also flew without it on a trip to Indiana--actually, her car seat was too big for a puddle jumper plane. We were going to use it, but it didn't fit anyway. She was 4 at the time (we brought it for a rental car). The seat belt is enough to restrain them from the elements. In the event of a serious crash, I yield to the experts on this thread for their thoughts.

If you will require a car seat at your destination due to taxi or rental car (busses don't need them of course since no belts) and will not be renting one, you will still have to bring it along.

Be aware that some car seats are just too big for airplane seats. Sometimes even if you intend to use one, the extra room needed by lifting an armrest isn't possible on planes where the armrests don't raise as happened to us on a flight to Indianapolis.

FYI my daughter is a featherweight--at present she is 35 pounds at 4 years 3 months.
