Yeah I know I can go to the TSA website (which I did) but I was looking for tips on how you pack your bigger than 10oz bottles...also what other tricks can you give me... we are going to Idaho from FLA...so we are carrying our jacket, can we stow them above if there is room, or do we have to keep them on our laps? Also can you "carry on" any snacks/drinks? TIA

If you are packing liquids in larger amounts than can be carried on the plane, I suggest packing them in a large ziplock bag. I've had shampoo and other things leak when they have been in checked luggage.

You can brings snacks through security, but you can't bring large drinks. However, you can buy the drinks after you go through security and bring them on the plane. All snacks can be brought on the plane.

You can stow your jackets and any other carry-ons either under the seat in front of you or in the over-head bin.

If your carry-on is on the large side and the plane is one of the smaller ones, you can gate check your bag. They will give you a tag to put on the bag and you leave it by the entrance of the plane. After you get off the plane, you pick it up in the same place.

Hmmm... can't help you out on the "bigger than 10 oz bottles" part, but you can carry on your jacket, but will be asked to shove it under the seat infront of you (ICK! - I put mine in my tote bag), you can "carry on" snacks and drinks that you have purchased after the security check point.

larger amounts of liquids must be put in your checked bag
there are some medical and babay exceptions just go to http://www.tsa.gov/travelers/airtravel/prohibited/permitted-prohibited-items.shtm
as for jackets i live in ne wi and when we left it was a balmy 15 deg but we left our winter jackets in our car and just wore sweatjackets
but yes if there is room you can store them over head but with the checked bag fees finding room in an over head bin may be hard
yes you can carry on food and any drink that was purchased after security

a bit of a warning if your checked bags are lucky enough to get extra screening by the tsa they will leave a little note for you and more then likely you will find things missing busted or in a shambles after tsa paws thru your bag

Will the jackets count as a checked bag?

What do you mean about them going through it? Why would they need too, just because I have my shampoo and body soap? Sorry please help me out....

They randomly choose checked bags that are opened and thoroughly checked. It has happened to me twice and they truly do leave your bag in shambles.

If you must take large bottles of toiletries, please double-bag them and put some kind of absorbent (like paper towels or a spare tshirt) inside the outer bag in case of leaks. Pressure changes OFTEN cause bottles to leak unless they are still factory-sealed.

As to your coats, the easiest thing to do is sit on them. (FA's need to see that your seat belt is fastened.) If there is space in the overheads AFTER everyone around you has stowed their baggage, then you can stuff them in on top of the baggage if you like. Unless they are on top of bags that belong to you, you should probably take them out and sit on them again just before descent begins, so that people don't toss them on the ground to get to their bags while deplaning.

I find bagging things in ziplocks helps with hand screening. I seprate things by what they are and toss them in a bag. Ive never had them open a bag yet and they awalys toss all my bags back in.

We had 3 bags searched on the way there and on the way back. They were not in "shambles". In fact, they had to unwrap a couple of presents. They opened it very carefully along the seams so all I had to do was refold along the seams and tape it back together. I wouldn't have even noticed the other bags were searched as well or that any of them were searched on the way back if it wasn't for those slips. They even relocked my bags! So don't go telling people that their stuff will be "broken, missing, smashed up, or in shambles!!" This is directed at jmkjr72 and Running Girl. Just because you had a bad experience doesn't mean everyone does!

I cheat a little with my purse. I use a very large tote/purse bag and put my small purse inside. Then fill the tote with other stuff. That counts as my purse.

You can take an empty water bottle through security and fill it on the other side.

You can only carry liquids in 3.4 oz or smaller bottles through security in your carry on (you mentioned bigger than 10 oz so I wanted to be sure you understand the 3.4 oz limit). These 3.4 oz or smaller bottles must be labled by size and placed into ONE 1 quart ziploc baggie. You will need to remove this baggie from your carry on when going throigh security.

Other liquids of any size can go in checked luggage. I completly agree with NotUrsala's advice on how to pack them (douible baggied with a t-shirt, cotton, socks, etc. in teh out bag in case of a leak).

As others have said, the coats can go in the bins ON TOP of otehr luggage if there is room for you to stuff them in. Please to not pile your coats in an empty bin before everyone has their luggage up there. We usually either leave the coats in the car (like the PP from Wi) and deal with the cold for the few minutes at our home airport, or else roll them up and put them under the seat in front of us (actaully with 4 of us we rarely have more than one bag in the overhead bin either).

The only reason I know of TSA searching my bags (has happened a few times including on my last trip) is becuase of the note. Nothing has ever been broken, stolen or in shambles:confused3 I am sure it happend once in a while but I do not think it is the norm.

You can bring any non liquid snack foods (yogurt is considered a liquid). You cannot bring a drink through security but you can buy one on the other side (or refill an empty water bottle) and carry that on to the plane with you.

I always put my undies/bras in ziplock bags. Hubby's undies as well. If my bags are hand searched, I do not want anyone touching my unmentionables. Yes, the tsa agents wear gloves, but my experience is that they do not change the gloves before moving to the next bag.

If you have a clip, you can clip your water bottle to your tote/purse. As pp mentioned, make sure it is empty. We keep those water flavor packets with us and fill up the water bottle after going through security.

If you are bringing snacks on board, you might want to bring something other than peanuts. If there is someone on board with allergies you might be asked to leave them unopened.

Have fun on your trip.
