Any tips on how to avoid the clogged up ear feeling I always get on airplanes? Thanks!!

Try using Ear Planes ear plugs. You should be able to get them in the ear/eye section of most pharmacies. Walmart sells them as well (and I find that they have the best prices on them). I never get the clogged ears or popping when I wear them. I recently took a flight without them (had them in my bag, but couldn't find them), and was miserable for the next 30 or so hours.

I've also heard people say that it helps if you take a decongestant an hour or so before take off.

I will second the EarPlanes! I never fly without them. I just flew this past weekend and due to weather we were constantly flying up and down, but I remained comfortable with my EarPlanes!

I already have mine packed in my purse for my flight on Thursday!

I will never leave home without them again. This from a girl who would literally be in tears on every descent on every flight. I discovered them about 3 years ago, and it has been great!

I too will Praise the Lord for Earplanes till the day I die!

The first time I had ever flown was to NYC when I was 17 and I was in tears within the first hours because my ears hurt so bad!

Then by the grace of God I found this site and the wonderful people of the DIS suggested these, and I'll never fly again without them!

My husband swears by Affrin nasal spray. He has a lot of sinus problems, and this was recommended to him by his doctor. He uses it before takeoff and before landing, and it has helped him so much! He used to have severe ear pain and have trouble hearing for a couple of hours after landing, but the Affrin pretty much prevents all that. Combine it with the Earplanes for a one-two punch (he hasn't tried those but we're heard excellent word of mouth...I'm very fortunate because I don't usually have ear problems when flying unless I have a sinus infection so I just use good old fashioned chewing gum).

I've never heard of them, but so many of you rave about them that I'm heading out to buy some ASAP. I hate being miserable for a whole day after flying because my ears get so ... well, whatever it is that they get - is there a technical term?? Thanks a bunch, everyone!!
