Has anyone used there airmiles to get the $100.00 vouchor for Alamo car rental. Any problems? Thanks for any advice

Not sure if our experience was typical - but here goes. We cashed in airmiles to receive two $100 Alamo vouchers which we used to pick up a car at the airport when arriving in Orlando this past November. However, because we had the vouchers we couldn't use any other discounts that we would have otherwise been entitled to (e.g. Visa discount, last minute Alamo discounts, etc.). In order to use the vouchers we had to call in to the Alamo "800 number" to apply the codes found on the back of the vouchers themselves. By reading the listing in Airmiles I mistakenly thought that the vouchers could be used as a gift certficate, but it really was, to my mind, more like using a coupon. In the end, we could have found a better deal by simply paying cash, but used the vouchers because we'd already "spent" our airmiles. I'm interested to hear if anyone else has had a different experience or if there is simply something that we may have overlooked.
For what it's worth, over the years we've used our Airmiles for passes for Universal and Seaworld on many occasions and have never had a problem - so we're working on accumulating for our next trip.:yay:

Have you considered just renting the car with airmiles instead of with vouchers? I rented a compact with National in April/may for 15 days and it only cost me 2015 airmiles. i just pay the local tax of around $90. I was quite surprised as to how cheap it was for me.

I used Alamo at the Sheraton Four Points (close to Universal) in January. We just rented for one day, the cost was $123 and I used the $100 voucher from airmiles and paid cash for the $23. No problems.

I used National 100$ (2) travel vouchers twice after being registered through Emerald Aisle. 1st time was at Orlando airport and 2nd time at Dolphin Resort and no problems whatsoever.

Same here.. just like using a gift card. Put the certificate code in the "spot" on my online reservation and it took that amount off the final cost; it didn't matter which codes/other coupons I was using.
