Airmiles Armchair Chatter

My wife has the offer for Dollarama of buy once ($30), get 10 AM, do it a second time, get 40 AM. Don't know what to make of this, but she only got 1 AM instead of 10. I know the other 40 AM won't be awarded until after the promo has ended, but not sure if I should file a missing miles already or not.
Same. I’m just going to sit on it for a few days to see what happens. I did opt in.

I think the Airmiles program needs to award our rewards sooner than they are currently. The reward needs to be closer to the earn in order for one to connect the two and be engaged in earning more (and spending more to earn more). Having to fill in missing miles reports for receipts or worse 4 months later is not going to cut it.

There is such a disconnect these days that they are missing out on that conncection. While I continue to play for the time being, BMO the game isn't fun anymore!
I couldn't agree more!
Knocking out Dollarama for me was disappointing ,(I am not going to change or use my BMO Mastercard just to get 1 Airmiles),,,I'll probably go back to shopping Dollar Tree more often.

Shell offers on gas are so unpredictable that I'm back to Esso for gas.
I still use Shell for the occasional Gift Card offer or instore purchase ..though I wish Mississauga had Shell stations that also sell M&M products like Donald My- Hero station.

Receipts Offers are unpredictable ,,I have 1 Inquiry and 1 In progress right now,,, I am not going to remember 4 months down the road about these random Airmiles.

Total disconnect to current market growth and development BMO.

Ok off my soap box for now

Have a great Saturday everyone.

Hugs Mel

I’m thinking since the base AM is now 1, both the 10 and the 40 are bonus miles to show later.

The Dollarama offer. You need to spend $60 over 2 purchases (in one month) to get 50AM. Now if you really were going to purchase that much at Dollarama anyway, great. It's just a matter of strategically shopping. I just don't thing I have $60 worth of things I need from Dollarama this month let alone July and August.

It will be gift cards for us again - I have all 3 grandkids" birthdays coming up before the end of August. The girls are June 19th and Arthur July 21st. I'm currently scouring the Amazon site for things that fall into an included category and then I can just get 6 $30 gift cards for that and I will be double-dipping.

Brilliant! I didn't want to do Disney GC as it will be a while before I can return (ya right!). But Amazon GC I could use or maybe some Netflix (as I was thinking about getting Netflix for the summer months). Thanks Jacqueline.

They also have M&M meats gift cards as well. They actually have lots of other gift cards.

We get the Disney GC's for our trips, so it works out perfectly for us. 1 AM though is a ripoff!

You still save on the foreign exchange fees getting those Disney GC. When I was there in May my bank charged me 1.40 on the money I converted, the exchange I got on the Disney GC was around 1.36.
I'm very lucky. The exchange rate I get at the bank is the same rate you get with the Disney GC. There's always an advantage to being a retired bank employee. ;)

Has anybody watched or read anything about Disney’s new island? I’ve been watching a lot on YouTube and can now say I’m in no rush to visit it. They seem to also have a bad situation with flies at the food stations. I certainly hope they get that under control.

I’m same. It doesn’t look all that great in general. The walk alone from the ship to the island is a turn off. I mean I understand it has to do with preserving the reef but a half mile walk with no shade, water, benches or transportation seems myopic. Just as easy as building that walkway they could have built a tram path or something. What’s going to happen when winds or seas kick up?

Two of DD’s friends have been there for the last few weeks training the cast that will be living there.

Also, interesting little bit of info I came across. This is not a private island like Castaway. They have to sell day passes to the locals or anyone who wants to visit.

What do you do when you are exhausted from the weekend that involved caring for your own health (still dealing with knee-buckling pain) and your hubby picked up some delightful stomach bug (woah, i needed to make several runs to drug and grocery stores!) and Porter drops an amazing seat sale? DUH! You spend hours doing Disney Math! Moving the trip back almost an entire month puts the dates on hotels that are covered by AP rates and those are less than the BB offer we currently have. Have enough Airmiles to cover the flights so we could clear the account out with a bang! Some serious spreadsheets underway at the moment because the WORST math is Disney math :P

The Porter seat sale is very decent and dates run until December 15th, you should look at them!
I cut and pasted the terms that apply to our time frame (any point in October) so that I could play around with the calendar to figure out the best combination between flight prices & resort. Also like that until 3rd week of October they leave Pearson at 10:30 and get in at 1:30, coming home they leave Orlando at 8:45 PM instead of AM which is much easier on us.

For reference, I chose a few dates and level of fare are we're looking at from as low as $689.66 (OR 4,800 miles plus taxes I think??) for the Standard fare (includes carry-on, we would more than likely add the cost of one bag to that and maybe upgrade seats?) to $973.16 (OR 8,400 miles - we only have 7,000 but you can now pay to make up the difference) for the *basic* level of their Reserve fare (includes 2 bags, priority check-in, security and boarding, front of the plane seats and a meal). Hate to tell you what WestJet is coming in for the very same dates!

I really wish we could use miles to book Disney hotels!!

On Basic, Standard and Navigate fares between September 4 and December 15, 2024: 30% discount is applicable on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays. 20% discount is applicable on Mondays, Fridays, and Sundays. On Flexible, Freedom and Ultimate fares between September 4 and December 15, 2024: 15% discount is applicable Mondays through Sundays.
