Can someone please help me? What if any food can I bring on in my carry on? I know after the security check point is fine. What about if I want to put a couple breakfast bars in my carry on or if I get candy or mints that may be obviously food. I am under the impression that any food that in your carry on when you get to security will be taken. Is that right?

Heck, I brought almost an entire birthday cake home with me!! It took up almost the entire bag it was in. It did cause a bit of commotion at security but that was because they just couldn't figure out what it was!!! As long as it isn't a liquid or a gel, you're fine.

Can you bring refrigerated items on the plane in a carryon? My kids are constant snackers during the day, and since we plan on spending 3-4 hours at the hotel every afternoon I thought it would make sense to bring some of their favorite snack foods...a bar of cheese, apples, olives, crackers, bananas...

Also, can we pack Evian water bottles or even other foods in our checked luggage?

it is far simpler than these endless threads make it appear....

Liquid - NO

Gel - NO

all other food/snack items are fine in carryon luggage. The only restrictions on food are when travelling internationally. Most posters here seem to be American.

Go to www.tsa.gov - it is all spelled out there very clearly.

(and yes, I am cranky - every third thread seems to ask the same question here these days)

Sorry for the repeat question...I guess I just don't believe getting anything through airport security is really so simple anymore. Also, in the past 8 years I've only flown to Europe, where you can't bring any food, where your water bottles may be confiscated, where they've been making me take off my shoes since pre-9/11. I even witnessed a person have to give up a mini-hairdryer on a keychain because when you pressed a button a little red light went on inside of it (and this was in 1997!). So basically getting through security in the States should be a piece of cake...

One last question...do you think they'd classify mayonnaise as a "gel?" Just kidding, Bavaria...hope you have a better second half of your day :)

actually, I fly to Europe all the time, and food is permitted to most Western European countries.

the rules are laid out on every airline website as well as www.tsa.gov, but it seems that people don't want to bother looking for an answer. I have always said that I would take the official word over anyone's word here, including mine.

And I have already decided that threads like this have yet again convinced me that my time is not well spent here.

Well then, looks like I'm out 2 bags of Twizzlers and a jar of Branson Pickles from London! Heathrow owes me...

And Bavaria, for the simpler questions where you think people just need to do a little add'l homework, well, one could say that this is as valid a source for them as any other website...I often wonder why people ask Disney questions that could easily be found in their Frommers or Fodor's guides or on the Disney website, and I imagine it's because people still feel better getting their answers from other people and hearing what they have to say. I'm continually surprised when I see an easy question come onto the forums and then learn 2 or 3 other tidbits of information in the responses...

Save your knowledge for the tougher questions if the repeats are tiring...it'll make better use of your time!

as long as you are not bringing animal products or plants you are able to bring in food products.

I'm done with this discussion; far too often the frequent flyers on this board share factual knowledge, yet are told by infrequent flyers that we are wrong, or that we are being 'harsh' for posting facts.

It is not difficult to use google, or visit an airline website to obtain factual information.

I'll decide where I will post, thank you. I find your comment rather patronizing to someone who has made over 3,000 factual posts, mainly about Transportation, in an effort to assist readers here.

AAAARRRRGGHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!! You guys are giving me a headache. While I do realize that everyone likes to have an answer to their particular question, it might behoove us to check through the previous posts. I have seen posts go unanswered because some felt a question was duplicated...over and over. So, the poster now thinks no one cares because no one has answered the question, when in all reality, that question has already been asked, that same day.
The other thing to keep in mind here.....you are always best served to check the TSA site first. They have the final word...always! And, they have little sense of humor. Then, if you are still confused, or have an addtl question, sure..post here and we'll see if we can help. But, as others have pointed out..the Transportation Board is not the best board for those warm and fuzzy feelings. The whole issue of transportation is just too serious, especially when talking about plane travel. So.....while DISers are a pretty good source of info, you really don't want to get to security and have the TSA agents telling you something different. Can't you just see it now...."But, sir, all the DIS people told me it was fine to bring that bowl of Jello!!!!" Okay, a stretch but you see what I mean.

Go to the TSA site...they have a very complete listing of what is, and is not, okay to bring in your carryon luggage. We want this board to continue to give out great info and hints, not wage war on each other. Okay, a bit strong but you know what I mean. Remember, there are human beings on the other side of the computer screen, with feelings. Okay...enough of my 'mother lecture'. Carry on people.

Thanks to the people that were helpful in answering my quick question, and that it wasn't too much trouble or a bother to answer it for me. As far as everyone else, your comments are definitely not appreciated. I have checked the website of my my airline and the faa website, TSA and all the other air line webpages, but as you can see I got confused. I didn't have the papers I printed from the TSA website with me, and thought that this would be a quick way too get my answer since I have MANY other things I need to accomplish before I leave.
