Airline weight limit on bags??

Oh jeeze another thing to worry about what is the weight limit?

Checked bag wieght limit is usually 50 lbs. You should be able to check your airlines website and find luggage details.

It's 50# by THEIR scale, which may or may not agree with yours. Do not depend on your bathroom scale (that's gotten me in trouble). They do allow you to reapportion your bags before they charge you for them, which is helpful but really slows the line down (imagine every person in line doing this). You can buy a hand scale that is made especially for weighing luggage, and it's worth it if it saves you overweight charges.

The best trick is to go with a premium frequent flyer. My dh gets 2 bags at 70# each, which makes life a lot easier...

We fly a lot and only once have we had a bag that was slightly over the weight limit, and my older kids always have school books in their bags. Unless you have an extremely larger than average suitcase I would not worry much about it. And, the one time that my bag was overweight (I was flying alone) they opened it up and I pulled a couple of items out making it close enough that they let it slide. The items I took out I put on a plastic bag and carried on the plane with me. If you have several suitcases you can just switch stuff to a lighter bag.

Also, take into consideration the weight of an empty bag -- some are much more than you'd think! I'm taking a collapsible bag w/me just in case I need to "re-apportion" some items. We've been okay so far, but who needs surprises - that kind anyway!

I just want to add that the only time I've had a bag go over limit was when I shoved a breast pump in my largest suitcase on top of a huge amount of winter clothes. Plus, I believe each person in your party with a ticket can have up to that much baggage. So if you're concerned, take a separate bag for all four of you. I'm sure you'll be fine!
