airline tickets/when to buy???

 Holy crap! We booked 6 months out - maybe that's the key to cheaper flights? We're on Jet Blue but prices weren't that different than United other than the free checked bag.

We always fly with Jet Blue and usually book as soon as tickets are released. I usually dont see prices much lower than in price than when they first come out. I've also read that Tuesday, Wednesday, and Saturday are the cheapest days to fly.

I also set up a fare alert on kayak.com and stalk prices daily. This might be overly obsessive but we're going Oct. 2016 and I'm watching prices for this year so I know what would be a good price for next year.

For our August trip flying out of EWR would have cost us $2100 for 3. We're trecking down to Philly instead and paying $1100.

As for when to book, generally 50-100 days prior to your trip and some experts claim you'll find best fares on Tuesdays.

I'm sorry, but what??? How is that possible? My boyfriend and I are flying out of LaGuardia, 8/19-8/26 and we are paying $256 per person, nonstop, round trip. Were you looking at first class? Even right now, I can do a search for airfare for 8/1-8/9 (Saturday to Saturday) and find nonstop airfare from Newark for $343 per person.

For reference, we booked our airfare May 17th, so approximately 3 months out.

I paid attention to flight prices this year to get an idea of when to book next year. For our October dates, the cheapest flights I've seen so far were in March, so 7 months out. I'm still checking about once a week, but that's the best I've seen so far.
