Hi All, :wave2:

Anyone else hooked on that realty TV show, "Airline," which airs on A&E?

If so, have you learned anything?

Thus far, I have learned I like SW, I will have to pay for a new tcket if I lose my original, AND all airlines sell too many seats!

I hear some of the pilots are ......odd

And some passsengers are completely unreasonable........

Having never flown SW, it has made me want to fly with them next because

1) I know I won't have drunken passenegrs on board (only the pilot, maybe).

2) If I am too drunk to fly, they will let me take a later flight at no cost.

3) They let Penguins on the plane! How cool is that?

Of course, I will also remember to

1) NEVER set my ticket down on the counter or at security.

2) Dress and put on my make-up at home, NOT in the waiting area.

3) Remember that everyone has feelings and it's not the counter people's fault if there is bad weather etc....

Nope, not the ones I know

They are...well...just... as rabbits

I love the show Airline! I actually feel their pain, as I used to work for an airline (though not SW). Other than their seating arrangments, I love flying Southwest - their flight attendants are some of the nicest I have met.

Some of my co-workers watch it also, and we talk about it sometimes. They can't believe some of the things that happen on there, and I have told them over and over - it is all true. Anything that COULD happen, does. I don't miss that job at all, although the free/cheap flights were a very nice perk that I do miss!

What I have learned form Airline....

My job is not sooo bad! I feel really bad for the employees and the stuff they have to take from people.

I fly SW all the time and I will continue to do so. Maybe I will throw a fit at BWI and get on the show..LOL! We are heading to Vegas in Dec...you never know!

Yup another addict here. While I think the people at SW do their jobs well I have to say I'll never fly SW. The one time in my life I was in danger of being bumped due to overbooking I was told that those that made their reservations first were guarenteed a seat and I was safe. However, on Airline, one guy was saying that he made his reservation 9 mo prior and was being bumped while someone who did actually make it on the flight had made theirs just a few weeks earlier. There's no rhyme or reason to it. I understand that all airlines overbook at times but WHY??? Considering that most tickets are non-refundable how could they possibly justify overbooking? Especially considering the anger of the passengers who are bumped. And what exactly determines who gets on the flight and who gets bumped? Anyone working for an airline want to enlighten me?

It just confirms stuff I've known all along. I love this show....:D

I love that show! Really saw it for the first time on the marathon on Monday.

i would have loved to have been on the plane with the penquins.

I've flown SW for business and it was ok - don't care for the seating frenzy, but that's ok as I'm one who is usually very early to a flight.

bumping because I'm really curious about this bumping thing

I've flown SW many times, and it's my understanding you get on on the plane based on who checks in for the flight first. So the guy who bought his ticket 9 months ago, got to the airport after the guy who bought his ticket 2 weeks ago. Also, tickets may be non-refundable, but you can re-book for a later flight and apply the value of the NR ticket against the new ressie.

This is correct. SW assigns A-B-C seating groups. Get there when they recommend - 1 1/2 hrs before your flight and you will get an "A" pass and have no problems. People who show up 20-30 mins before the flight leaves risk the bump if overbooked. BTW you can print your boarding pass from their website now on the day of your flight. No reason to ever get a "C" again!

::yes:: This starts at midnight, so you can get the first one if you really want to! :teeth:

I keep forgetting to watch this show, but I have to say I love Southwest. Have flown other airlines and the hassle of the seating doesn't matter to me because I think their employees are the FRIENDLIEST and their prices can't be beat.

Love this show! As an employee of a major airline for the past nearly 18 yrs, I am sooooooo thankful that I don't have to deal with the public at all. I absolutely hated the approx 20 months I worked in reservations. There are some real weirdos out there.

The people who get bumped from flights are usually the ones who check in last. Check in as early as you can, not more than 4 hours prior to departure.

But WHY do they overbook? They aren't losing money if people don't show up because most tickets are not refundable. So WHY put your passengers through this at all?

Because if they didn't overbook the flights, they may end up having the plane half full. This causes the company to lose money, which in turn could potentially make the prices of tickets go up.

The majority of the time, everyone that books doesn't show.
