Airline recliners!!

I really really would love for planes to fix seats.

I hate having them reclined and I am one of the immature people who will put my legs up and hit the chair if I have a recliner in front of me if they have not responded to me politely asking them to sit forward and they rarely do.

Every signle flight I have been on the reclining people are very rude and recline all the way back without asking and without any consideration and me and my husband cannot watch films no matter which way we angle it when they are back and we would never recline our seats as it just is not fair on the people behind us and we are nice.

I don't care if its day or evening if you recline without asking and refuse to put your seat up I think you are rude and if I am behind you or my husband is your flight will not be comfortable.

Oh and even worse when you dangle your arm over the back of the seat in front of our telly.

Grrr I hate flying.

I'm sorry but I'm not asking permission to recline my seat.

How can you be immature and nice at the same time?

Which would not do me any good due to a medical condition I cannot sit in an airline seat upright for any length of time, without it causing me a great deal of discomfort and lasting pain. Hence along with DH's height, 6ft 4in, we now travel in PE whenever we can, and certainly for transatlatic flights it is the only option until we can afford UC.

Claire ;)

I don't think I expressed it very well but I dont think being immature stops you being nice I have met lots of nice kids.

Basically ignore me because I hate flying anyway and I find it really stressful I dont really even blame the people other than some of the rude ones we have personally dealt with I blame the airlines for allowing the seats to be reclined and giving you such a small amount of space I really think they should be fixed.

Ooooohhhhh...I was wondering how long it would be before this thread kicked off.
At the end of the day you get what you pay for. Economy means no leg room. If the airlines were to cater for every shape and size then there would be half the amount of seats on board and the tickets would be double the price for everyone. I know it sounds unfair on the tall and the larger members of the population but you have to look at it from the airlines point of view. They provide the option of extra space at a premium price because the seats take up more space and space = money. I'm 6' and don't find the journeys particularly comfortable but put up with it because I'm too tight to pay the extra money....the option is there but I don't take it. So I put up with other people reclining their seats because it is their entitlement too.

i can understand everyones point of view and i did expect people to recline their seats but i wasnt happy on our last Flight to Florida.
my son was sat in Virgins disabled travel seat (has anyone seen them?)
he was sitting further forward than we were, so hardly had any room as it was. while eating his meal, the person in front reclined their chair without warning. im not sure how but my sons arm got trapped (he had a massive bruise for the duration of our trip). i had to physically force the seat forward to untrap his arm even though he was crying in pain- the person in front wouldnt upright it!
i wasnt a happy bunny, later they had the cheek to moan because son had been kicking the back of the persons chair- his feet were strapped in by the way!

the main issue is peoples manners
if only manKIND were kinder :goodvibes

Btw i was very proud of my son as he was an angel throughout the flight, was a little bored- i was hoping he'd sleep, but he was too excited.

heres to a happier journey next time :goodvibes

I had to spend one flight with soaking clothes as the person in front of me put thier seat back while food was being served. I do not eat airline food, but I did have a drink in the table, they did not look back, and mananged to jolt the seat back to I was soaking as a result of thier action.

I am not saying thst they should not recline, but a little bit of thought would have saved me having an extremely uncomfrtable journey.

I do recline my chair - not always fully - but put it back at meal times :) Never thought i would upset anybody by doing so, as most people do the same:confused:

Generally I am well behaved - don't dangle arms, talk loudly, kick or grab hold of people's seats :upsidedow

Well I wondered how long it would take before it all got a bit controversial. I'm quite a mild mannered person but have also been very lucky where no one in front of me has either put the seat back without asking or has been rude in general.
Not wanting to play devils advocate too much I can see all points of view and I think the important thing here is manners, I don't think you should have to ask permission to put your seat back but at least do it at a slow rate so the person behind has time to react so that no arms are trapped or drinks spilled. I think it should be up to the airline though to police this better (i.e make sure seats are upright when meals are served), it shouldn't be up to the punters on the plane to get into squabbles but should be up to the flight staff to keep an eye on things and if they feel someone on the plane is taking it too far (yet again like trapped arms) they should be told.

Whenever this thread has come up throughout the years, it's nearly always ended in a slanging match ...so it's been far more civilised this time. :-)
I always think that, irrespective of the right to recline, not enough blame is attached to the airlines who treat people like cattle and create this problem in the first place!
We once swapped our extra leg-room seats, with a couple who were having problems with their autistic child, so that they then had more space to manoeuvre in.
The moment we sat down in our new spot, the woman in front reclined her seat onto my knees. I asked her politely if she could reposition her seat-back, so that I could adjust my legs - and she told me NO!!! She also refused when asked by the flight attendant. So the staff later 'publicly' presented us with a bottle of champagne, partly for earlier giving up our seats in a good cause, but we reckoned it was also to try and embarrass the woman in front, as they too, must be pretty sick of rude and uncooperative passengers. (...And just to add: if she'd simply let me adjust my legs as I'd wanted, I would've then had no problem with her reclining her seat again).

nibbo gets to the nub of the problem and makes the point very well:

I was hoping that wouldn't come up! ;) I've seen the threads about these on other sites and I can see this one going downhill fast. :rotfl:

On our return trip from Orlando last year, we had a lady who sat infront of my DH who reclined her seat the minute she boarded the plane and never moved it the whole journey!, even when the food came, and non of the cabin crew asked her to do it either!, I have to admit my DH wasn't too chuffed to start with, BUT just as my DH does on every return journey he soon fell asleep
