We are paying $166 each for our flight through USAirways in September. That was the best we found and we shopped around (orbitz, priceline, expedia) but going through the airline itself ended up being the cheapest.

For our Oct. 20th trip we will fly out of Huntsville, AL or Nashville, TN. Distancewise, we are as close to Huntsville as we are to Nashville. Last year we flew out of Huntsville and it was 258 a person roundtrip. I haven't been able to find anything from Huntsville during our fly time under 323. Nashville prices are running about 260-270. I keep hoping for a better price but I doubt I will be seeing one. Like DH and I decided, it sure beats that 13 hour drive!

I got $98 round trip from Detroit on Northwest for our Disney trip this August. I booked around the middle of May. I think I paid around $200 last June when we went. I paid $145 round trip last December, which was really good for that time of year, but I just couldn't believe it when it went down to $98 for this trip.

Had originally booked a fare from stl to mco at 94 each way was very happy with that two weeks later got a ding fare at 74 eachway I simply called swa while I was online and the cust service agent was very helpful would not let me hang up until I got the airfare I wanted for six people and made sure that I got a credit on swa for the balance that was already paid
last year we had to eat about 120 dollars on a round trip on a certain airline whose initials are AA I wont spell it out, they wanted to charge 100 dollars per ticket to chang to that fare well that would be stupid DUH

So when does anyone think SW will release their flights for the rest of the year? We are going early Nov and I am checking daily for the release......

A friend of mine told me that SWA was trying to close the gap between their highest prices and their lowest prices. People on the same flight could be spending $39 - $220 each way for the same trip. I have to say that the higher prices have discouraged my family from planning our next trip. We, like the original poster, flew in December 2005 for around $650 for a family of six out of Manchester, NH. I think the days of the rock bottom prices are sadly gone. It will take a little more planning and saving before we can consider visiting our favorite vacation destination. As we all know, where there's a will, there's a way.

Unfortunately, the percentage of fuel Southwest has hedged decreases every year. That being so, prices will rise if they expect to continue flying in profit territory.

But under $200 sounds good to me.

If anything, keep checking the flight schedules. We fly from Islip LI, we've never paid more than $49 ea way in the past. So this last trip, we weren't happy with $79 each way.
We kept checking back and saved $200. We booked for our May trip in January because $79 was the cheapest we could get and the flight times we wanted were already sold out. I had switched our arrival flight once on line for only $16 more (for an earlier flight) Well a month before our trip, I checked the flights and low and behold the times we wanted were suddenly available and for $54.88 (no ding alert from them either) !! I called SWA, the woman checked to make sure the seats were available before I canceled my first reservation. She sat on the phone with me while I went through the menu. I immediately rebooked and got exactly what we wanted from the start!! We now have a credit of $216, good until Feb. SWA sells their own vacation packages. A couple of times I went to book through their packages and those same flights were available. They must release seats they don't sell right at the end.
The price isn't bad, but if you're not happy, keep checking!!

I was playing the waiting game too. Missed out on $69 one-way fares to/from Orl to BDL (Hartford, CT)! Then nothing nothing nothing. I watched as flights filled up and $137 fares were no longer available. Then it was $157...then $177 one-way. I was killing myself.

Finally, they dropped to $199 for roundtrip Sat -Sat...I grabbed it up for our Oct trip. This time we can't fly midweek and that's hurting us in terms of better fares. So I'm happy w/ my $199. Still somewhat hopeful they'll drop and I'll have a credit for a future trip, but if not, at least I can live w/ it.

Thank you all for the comments and good advice. It seems that Southwest might be the airline of choice for getting credits if the prices would happen to drop before our trip. I could always force myself to take another trip to WDW. Another thing that I was worried about was the departure times if we waited any longer. We want to get there as early as possible on Wednesday to start our day. We only have five days and want to make the best of those five days.

I booked our Oct. 25 flights from South Bend, IN to Orlando in April. I was worried that with climbing gas prices that airline tickets would also climb. Boy was I right. I paid $234/ticket. Travelocity now lists that flight at $514/ ticket! I've kept an eye on the price and it has never dropped below what I paid in April.
