Been kicking around the idea of a WDW vacation. I've come across some great deals on the vacation but airline prices seem kind of high. Anyone have any experience on this and whether prices may come down soon? We are flying from Philly to Orlando....any insight is appreciated....

When are you taking the vacation?

There are a few threads describing the PHL to MCO airline rates. In general, it seems that AirTran rates are lower than Southwest, at least until October this year. The generally discussed opinion is that airline prices are not coming down in the near future. I suggest you go to the Transportation forum and look through the threads discussing airline rates. FYI if you are leaving PHL on Sept. 13th, you can travel OW for $99 on AirTran and US Air, but that may not be when you are going.

Prices flying from Hawaii to the East Coast have gone down by about $400. But that is flying from Hawaii, so it might only be the long hauls that are seeing the price drops.

If you really want to take a vacation to Orlando, I would price out driving. Consider, gas, time, and hotel for over night stops if needed.

There was a drop a few weeks ago, at least from New York to West Palm Beach (aka Mom). I got it for $250 RT, which was a considerable drop from $369. I don't know if there will be another one.

Did you ever look at www.farecast.com? You type in the dates and cities, and it predicts whether the airfare will drop or remain the same. It's been pretty accurate for me.

Doesn't look like in the near future that prices will be going lower. Best bet is to try and fly out of smaller airports and fly into more regional airports vs Orlando. Remeber if you are going to rent a car anyway most have unlimited milage, so a little farthur drive might pay.

Prices out of our small town dropped about $100 round trip to about $347 in the last week for our October dates. Still higher than what we want to pay though. We can get tickets around $230 out of Richmond right now, but I'm hoping those will go lower next month.

I also fly out of Philly and would say just to keep looking everyday. We are flying in July to MCO and for 4 of us prices were as high as $1300 but after looking contantly, i was able to book for $875. We did have to take the earliest flight out in the morning (which is fine because it means feeling the magic more). We were able to book this price about 2 1/2 months before our vacation.

Good luck.

short answer...No//sorry..
BUT
if you can scope out SW, dings (they fly near you , right? ) you may be able to snag something....try tues/wed departure for best bet....I "hear" ;) they release new inventory after midnight each night Good Luck!

I finally had to give in and book a flight on AirTran, we fly out of Indy every year to Disney and SouthWest just wasn't competitive. I have been watching prices slowly climb this year and waiting for the right moment to book but it just seems like the prices are going no where...at least not before Sept! I didn't want to wait until the last minute and have the flight book up as usually when we go down our flights are full.

I'm hoping the prices go down soon for everyone else booking but we were stuck paying about 2-300 more than our usual flight down to Orlando!

Well, it's not to Orlando...but I just booked a flight today for my dad to take a trip to San Fransisco to see his brother..out of Philly(for travel late June)...I used a company called "cheapOair"...and after checking for months I got that flight for $330! Every other site/airline I checked was nearly DOUBLE that! it is roundtrip too and nonstop...which is great for my dad..layovers tend to confuse him a bit, LOL! Carrier was US Air....might be worth checking out that site as well as checking just US Air...maybe you'll have luck!?

I have a BIL who works in airline management and he said the trend is to reduce capacity, not to drop prices, when the bookings are slower. So that flight might not drop, but it could disappear.

I am currently deciding when to bite the bullet to buy SIX tickets to Orlando in October, which will be more than $2800.

I just went through the same thing looking for flights out of Philly on SW! Ugh it's so expensive right now! It would be over $1000 for the 3 of us :headache: I can't believe 3 years ago we paid $79 for PHL to MCO and $49 for return flight for 6 people on a holiday weekend no less!:sad2: We said we would drive because it would cost half the price even with gas prices being so high but we need to replace the tires on my truck before we do a drive like that and that's $600! :scared: So unless I come into some kind of money soon, I think our trip is going to have to wait! :sad1:

I"m flying out of Philly into MCO in October. I booked my tickets 2 months ago. I read that if you were going to fly book now, prices would increase.
I got 4 RT tix for $1165 and those flights are now passed $1800. I got lucky! I feel they might go down a little but not till we see gas go down more then it has at the pumps.

Good luck!

If possible look to fly mid week. We are flying out a day early and just having a room. Doing this saved over $300 but I also got extra Disney Day:)

Not to MCO, but I was playing around with airfare to Tulsa and I happened to try roundtrip to Dallas, then a roundtrip from Dallas to Tulsa and it was over $100 less than just booking together. This was also from a smaller airport (Newport News) that is my area. This would really add up for my crew. I would suggest large layovers if you went this route.

My wife and I planned our first trip to Disneyland together based entirely on airfare.
Through Southwest we were able to fly round trip from Pittsburgh, PA to Orange County (SNA) for $178 r/t

This will make the 3rd time I've made this same flight this year and the fare is 1/2 of what the cost was the previous two times.

If Southwest flies the route.... I fly Southwest.

I have had nothing but positive experiences with Southwest - for me, it's the fact that they do not charge a fee for me to fly.... with luggage..... novel idea.
Plus they don't charge change fees if I would have to change the flight for any reason.

I hope that Southwest's model of friendly, fast, and efficient air travel isn't changed when they integrate AirTran into the company.

SWA's rate out of PHL for my dates have dropped, risen and dropped again for the past week. No Ding fares but several times they were daily alerts with specific "purchase by" dates and for flights during a tight range of days.

I would just keep checking. If you're just kicking the idea around right now, keep your dates flexible. And don't forget that you can fly into MCO on one airline and come home on another. USAir, AirTran and United all have non-stops. Several other have 1-stops with no change of planes.

Good luck! The lowest that I've seen recently was $89 one-way. I don't think we will see anything cheaper than that.

I bought tickets on Air Tran from Lexington to Orlando (and back) for $79. (plus tax etc.) each way. I bought two round trip tickets, paid a little extra for early boarding, and ended up paying about $365. for a September (2011) trip. It was offered for only about 48 hours, and I had received a fare watch alert in my email.

We will have to drive from Louisville to Lexington, (and back) (and pay $11. per day to park our car) but it's still worth it, as the fares from Louisville just haven't approached what I want to pay.

I'm hoping for our big 2012 trip (with the kids) that I'll be able to find something just as good but closer to home.

We got $79 each way from phl to mco in mid August on Southwest. Bought them around Easter when they were having a sale. We are pretty happy with that price; got great times, too. 8 am down and early evening back nonstop.

We flew PHL-MCO in March for less than $900 rt for 5 people! I thought that was great.

In the past, we've flown in or out of TPA. We also like to take the first flight out in the am, so if your dates are flexible, an extra hotel night may pay for taking the first am flight the following morning. You can also combine MCO/TPA without a penalty - not like the old days when you had to book 2 ow's.

good luck.

Usair is running around 178 RT in December. We bought our tickets for that same time in january when the rates were first released and paid 198 RT. This is for PHL-MCO. So in my experience this year it would have been better to wait until we were 6 mths out except 1 ticket was using airline miles which 6mths out wasn't available. Southwest has been running high. Airtran out of allentown( not sure where you live) has great rates but mediocre flight times. Also all prices are non-stop flights.
