hey guys, i'm plannin on goin into the airforce academy... i'm not too too sure as to how to go about doing that, so can anyone help me out? has anyone gone there? can you just tell me anything that you know, cause i'm kindof nervous bout the whole thing, you know?

Hey~~

Just go on the Site and look at the Application Procedures.

It is pretty Lenghty. You need Some high up recommendations.. , ( Local Govert. Senators Ect.) But just have great Grades, and get your stuff in order Fast! The Sooner you apply the better...

I am in the A.F., I did not do the Academy, but if you get accepted, that is a huge milestone. Good Luck ( Sir )

and I would caution you about the word "planning". It is an honor to be chosen to attend; it's not a regular college that you can choose.

I agree with the other poster: you need to get your ducks in a row. Are you a senior this year? If so, hustle! Call your advisor now and make an appointment to go in and talk about this. He/she should be able to put you in touch with the contacts you will need to begin the application process.

You also need to get your letter in to your Senator now- most of them limit the number of referrals they will make, and the earlier you get your name in for consideration, the better.

If you want to know more about the Academy, to keep up with news there, check the Gazette Telegraph online. For the past 3 weeks they've had nearly daily coverage of what the doolies are up to. They finish basic training and begin academic courses next week.

Good luck! If you want this badly enough and can prove that you are worth the investment of time and money, you'll get in!

I went there for two years before deciding that it just wasn't for me. It was a tough place to get in and a tough place to be. The application process takes forever and was much more work than the colleges I applied to. Make sure it is absolutely what you want. If you are there and are not completely committed, it won't seem worth it. The two years I spent there were without a doubt the most challenging years of my life. But I gained experiences there that I would not give up for anything. Good luck!

You know If I could have gotten into a Military Acd I would have sucked it up and did it. Come on its free and just having that name on any piece of paper makes you life easyer. Plus it is FREE. now I have $45,000 in student loans I will be paying back until I am 45 so that fun, NOT.

Just do it, hang your head HIGH, and do it. Not that many people get that chance. Oh yea to the person who quit, thats the easy way out.

Wow, that is a pretty rude and obnoxious statement to say about someone that you don't even know. For me it was NOT the EASY way out, it was the right decision for me and my family. Don't be rude to others because you didn't get accepted.

There are a lot of people that do try to get in, I would never take a place of someone else and then quit when that person could have became something great. I can eat my food in 7 chews, you cant???
I never have wanted to go to AFA didnt want to go I got into my dream school and now do fine.

wow... thanks a lot...i guess i really need to start gettin my butt into gear, huh? yikes!!:dance3:

I applied to USNA which has pretty much the same application process as USAFA. It's long, arduous, and pretty well set up to select the best, brightest, and those most committed to attending those schools.

One thing to consider...the service academies aren't just universities. They're training grounds for our next generation of military leaders. That's a hell of a lot more responsibility than that of your average undergrad. Are you willing to lead your subordinates into harm's way while defending this country? To make those hard choices that could see some of them killed?

Don't take this as me trying to talk you out of it...just asking you to check yourself to make sure this is really what you want to go for. If you are...then I thank you in advance for your service to this great nation. If not, there's no shame in that either.

yea.......yea, i just don't know anymore....i mean, i know that there's a whole lot of responsibility and watnot...i'm just....nervous.
