Airfare

Compare prices and see who has the better rate.
If you want to fly in a day or two early for your cruise sometimes it’s hard to do if Disney is booking your airfare.
** It’s a good ideas to fly in a day or two before the cruise and not the morning of. If your flight is delayed the ship will not wait for you.
Not sure ifDisney does it anymore but at one time if your flight was delayed the would “catch you up” with the cruise but depending on when the first stop is you could miss a day or two of your cruise.

I, personally, wouldn't do it. If there is an issue with the flight or I need to change or cancel, it is SO much easier dealing directly with an airline than having to go through a third-party.

If you're okay with not booking first class (DCL doesn't offer it), booking air via DCL seems like a particularly good idea right now, because if your cruise ends up being cancelled, the airfare will be cancelled, too, at no penalty to you. And you can also cancel the airfare up until paid-in-full deadline, unlike when you book directly with an airline and it is typically nonrefundable immediately.

Also, if you're sailing during hurricane season or on a Maiden voyage, either one of which has a higher than usual likelihood of the cruise date being changed/cancelled, DCL will also change/cancel your flights as needed. This can be especially useful if a weather event (hurricane, severe fog) delays your return to the port and the return flight needs to be changed at the last minute, which isn't the easiest thing to do onboard yourself since you can't easily call the airline on the phone. And who wants that stress during their hard-earned cruise, anyway?

When you book the airfare, you will get to choose your arrival and departure day (if you want to arrive/depart day of, or a day or so earlier or later, respectively. You will also get to choose your carrier (it will be a legacy airline: Delta, American or United), your flight time and list your seating preference, although the latter is not guaranteed. If you're very fussy about your seat location, you might not want to book flights via DCL- that's the main drawback in my book as someone who always wants to fly up front.

I want to price out DCL air for Hawaii. I wanted to book Hawaiian airlines for the flight to HNL and another airline home from Vancouver. I don't think DCL books on Hawaiian air though. I have been keeping tabs on pricing on Hawaiian Air and want to compare what DCL has on a legacy airline.

I wanted a direct flight there and back.

We booked Disney Air for our first cancelled Italy/Greece trip. We wanted the peace of mind that if flights etc., needed to be changed, we would have some help with this international flight. Fantastic price, non-stops directly to Rome. Full refund when everything was cancelled due to pandemic-no hassle with the airline. I would definitely do it again if I could find the right flights for the right price. We were also flying in several days before our cruise and were close to one of their gateways (Boston). Worth checking out.
