Very excited we just booked our first visit to Hawaii the end of June!

I need some feedback from anyone who has purchased summer flights to HNL: When is the best time to find cheaper airfare? Right now I can get a non-stop on Hawaiian Air for $779. Is this the best I'm going to get, or should I hold out for something cheaper? We are traveling from Las Vegas.

TIA

I'll tell you EXACTLY when to book the cheapest ticket, as long as you give me Wednesday's winning Powerball numbers (before the drawing obviously).

No one can tell you what air fares will do. Keep looking at least 2-3 times a week, different days, and different times of day. Use the "incognito" version of your browser.

Someone will tell you the best time to book is 6-7 weeks before your flight. Cheapair.com did a study, and while that was the AVERAGE best time to book, they even mentioned you can't use that as a rule.

No way for us to really help you here other than to say don't rush. If you aren't going until next June you have time to study the airfares for a while. Go to www.kayak.com and set up a fare watch so you'll be notified of the pricing everyday. That will give you a sound basis on which to decide when to pull the trigger.

If I remember right, I may have read on another board that if you sign up for Alaska Airlines credit card you may get a free companion fare. I haven't looked into this myself yet but I am planning to look at it some time.

We booked in November 2015 for September 2016, and paid $980 per person from Buffalo to Honolulu, with layover in Atlanta. It was on Delta in economy class. I checked fares periodically after we booked and they seemed to only climb up from the time we booked. To me, $779 sounds like a great fare. We usually can't find them that low from Buffalo.

I went to the Alaska Airlines website and found the companion fare is not free but a reduced rate. I will still probably look in to this when I go there.

Thanks for the replies. I know nothing is guaranteed, but I'm hoping to hear from west coast people who've taken this trip during the summer.

Alaska airlines could be a great deal. Thanks!

You get one "free" ticket if you buy a ticket. You still have to pay the taxes on the second ticket which add up to about $145 RT to Hawaii.

The Alaska Airlines deal doesn't work for us.

Curious what airfare other West Coast people have paid for this route. Not looking for a "crystal ball" answer---just previous experiences!
