FRONTIER AND SOUTHWEST are having a 3 day sale!!
HUGE savings I've noticed so far.

We were looking at $1668 for a southwest flight, which is now at $1088!! :cool1:

Same with Frontier.

BUT this has me wondering.... Do you think this is the time to snag them or is this a "get people to book at a higher rate" then they'll be in offered in a couple months?

Hope that makes sense. We're looking for Dec 3-12. I was told to wait until late August/September to get the tickets since that's when the real savings come in.

However, this deal looks pretty good. We're now looking at $250 pp.
Those with travel experience, you seen much less?
Hate to skip it this sale if it doesn't happen again, but then also hate to purchase too early when they might reduce more! It is a "low travel" week, after all.

I haven't been on a plane in 7 years so you can tell that I'm clueless when it comes to the prices offered.
:goodvibes

Any advise, ideas, or fare compares from the past would be great!
We're in Colorado, so it is a bit of mileage. :)

I personally would book, that sounds like a great deal!!! My experience with SW is that their best fares come out the day the schedule opens...for example I bought our 2/24/12 airfare when it came out on 7/26/11 for $1192.00 (for 4) and now it is $1984!!!!:scared1: If you're worried about spending too much, the good thing about SW is that if the fares go down, you can call and get a credit towards future travel. :lovestruc

I don't know anything about Frontier airlines, sorry! :confused3

I would book. Airfare has been steadily dropping since they skyrocketed earlier in the year. But I really doubt they're going to go too much lower with this economy. They're more likely to go back up sky high.

I agree that it's a good deal and I would book it now. We booked our flights in Dec. for about the same price. Plus on SW you don't have to pay for your bag. A big plus!

I have been stalking SWA's website too to change our flight so we can take advantage of the FD offers...however, their 3-day 'sale' fare from BDL to MCO is $40 MORE per person today than it was yesterday. Strange.

(Can you tell I'm bitter about not rebooking yesterday?) :headache:

Mine only went down by $11 on Southwest and is still really high on the return trip, so I don't have a clue what to do. I guess I'll get the FD details worked out tomorrow then go ahead and book.

What can you tell me about Southwest? Someone at work told me he flew them once and would never do it again. He said he felt like he was on a cattle car.

I personally LOVE Southwest!!! I love the lower fares, I love that they are at our local airport. I love that there are no baggage fees. I love that they have always been on-time or early in my experience...I love their sense of humor in-flight. That being said, it's certainly no first class experience, so, if your friend is use to champagne and hot towels, SW might not be up to his standards. :rolleyes1

I totally agree .... plus if I need to change a flight there's no fee .... I just pay the difference in the fare or if it goes down I get a credit that I can use any time within a year of when I booked the original flight. I fly a lot between Northern and Southern CA so I'm always able to use the credit before it expires.

Check out Delta, too. We normally use SWA or Air Tran, but Delta is the clear winner this time. Their airfares are on sale until tomorrow. I was able to book round trip airfare for $96 per person. We went from paying ~$1200 with Air Tran to $490 with Delta!

Good luck!

We have been watching fares for Southwest and Frontier for our January trip. Frontier actually went up in price, Southwest remained the same so no sale here. I am in WI.

Hello fellow Wisconsinite! I've been checking airfare for February and it's pricey compared to this past February. TA suggested I wait until after Labor Day and then check. He said nowadays airlines put out their best prices a "season" ahead, so for winter, best prices will be available in fall. He said the prices out there now for February are "default" prices. I hope he's right because I'd like to see those prices come down a bit. He also told me that the airlines kind of have us over a barrel flying nonstop out of Milwaukee because it's basically Frontier and Southwest. He said years ago there were something like 20 nonstop flights a day and now there are only 8.

Hi WI folks! I grew up in WI and now in MN - and finding the same things. Not many deals to be had out of MSP since Northwest pulled out as a hub. And SW routes us either through Midway or um, denver. LOL Delta is direct, but the flights are far from 'cheap' and they aren't at stellar times. Still waiting it out at this point - and figuring I'm probably not seeing anything worse than what I would find in October for a January vacation. I'd jump on a $200 ticket with decent flights times at this point - direct or not. Preference to SW b/c of the free bags and with 2 kids, that'll help a great deal!

And hello back :) Thanks for the info. We were hoping the fares might go down especially since the flights we are looking at are pretty empty. So true on the direct flights big difference in years past. Actually we also have Air Tran for direct flight option too but not sure how long that will last since Southwest bought Air Tran.

Hi back to you too!! We were looking at SW for the same reason-the free bags. The flights with Southwest are also direct for us but I don't like that they don't have assigned seats. Frontier has free bags too for their classic fare, plus you get assigned seats. So that is why we are really hoping Frontier drops their prices. Otherwise thinking we will be flying Southwest.

Hey all~

We, too, are hoping to see SW fares drop for out 2/12 WDW vacation. The prices listed right now are considerably more expensive than we have paid for any of our previous trips.

We are in Central WI, so watch flight prices for both Milwaukee and Minneapolis. Right now, MN is slightly less, but no direct flights...

Waiting for lower prices :surfweb:

Check Tampa prices, too. I booked us out of there for about $60 less per person. We have a few free rental days from National, so it was a no-brainer for us. Even if you don't, though, Mousesavers always has great discount codes for car rental places - it might be worth it. And since National has a rental site (two, in fact!) at WDW, we just rent it for one day on either end of our trip. This way we can also stock up on snacks, bottled water, and anything else we can't find in Ohio in the winter (we needed water shoes once). And don't foget that with Southwest you can go one way. So you could always fly into MCO and out of TPA (or vice versa) depending on the airfares - then you'd only need a car one day.

Also check airfare during the week - it tends to be higher on the weekends when people have more time to book trips!

I'd like to say hello to my fellow Wisconsintes!!:goodvibes . Our trip is not until the end of March and I hope Frontier relases their rates soon. I've booked our trip due to Free Dining and now need to get the airline tickets. I've been doing some pricing and I can't believe I was able to get tickets from Madison to MCO $100 less (for the all the roundtrip tickets) that flying out of Milwaukee. I hope this holds true for the end of March because I'd prefer to fly out of Madison (airport is 20 minutes away instead of driving 1 hour 15 minutes to Milwaukee).
