For those who fly out of Newark, could you tell me what kind of rates you have obtained? I want to go the last week in April. thanks

I am flying out with my fiancee March 12, flying back March 20. Saturday - Sunday trip. We got our tickets for $114 each, each way.

We are flying Song airlines.. which is Delta's low-cost carrier to Orlando.
I did a quick check for the end of April (I put in 4/23 - 4/30, just for testing) and the rates were much higher ($364 each way!!)

Their website is www.flysong.com, so you may wantr to try with yout particular dates. I booked before Christmas and my flights still have seats available at the same price I paid.

I would have thought your rate would be higher since you are leaving and returning on the weekend. You are also closer to Easter. What a bummer. Thanks for the info though.

We found Air Tran to be the cheapest. We are also going last week of April. However we did have to fly into Tampa instead of Orlando. The flights into Orlando were horrible.

Airfare on Song out of Newark has been going up and down like a yoyo. I am going 4/21 to 4/25 and paid $245.20 each R/T. After I bought the n/r tickets, Disney changed the pin event to the following weekend. I am not going to change my flights, but the same flight were $500+ each, plus I would have had to pay the SONG change fee. Not worth it. I will miss the pin event, and just spend some quality time with DH...
We are watching fares for Sept, and a few days ago they were $99 one way. They are back up to $114 plus fees. I am still going to wait a bit and see if I get the $49 one way that I got last year.

We are flying Easter week, and the rates from Newark were so bad we decided to fly out of Philadelphia-the rates were as much as 60% less.

The rates are so ridiculous for the last week of April, that we decided to drive. I am kicking myself that I didn't grab Spirit out of Atlantic City when I had the chance.......months ago it was under $200 round trip. Now it's over $400..........and forget Newark. Newark is even higher.

We drove from central NJ a few years back. It's doable, but it's not an "easy" drive. There are many threads on this forum about driving down I-95 that will give you a lot of information. Good luck!

The last time we drove down to Florida from NJ was 3 years ago. Since we've decided to drive this April, I must admit I'm looking forward to it. My husband and I both share the driving........and now much to my kids happiness, we have a DVD player in the car. Even before this "new" technology, my kids did well driving down. Unfortunately my son is a freshman in college, and can't join us for this trip. That leaves us with 3 kiddies.

My only problem is we're not going to leave first thing in the morning......but probably around 2:00 pm (so my kids can finish their school day). We've always left around 6 am and driven to Santee, South Carolina. Now I'm hoping we can make it to Lumberton, North Carolina by 11 pm. Driving thru the D.C. area is going to be really tough because we'll probably be driving during their rush hour.

Still looking forward to the drive though!!

I Drove down with my fiancee in April 2002, also took the auto train down and drove back up in both 1999 and 2000.

It can be fun, especially if you're like me and enjoy eating at Cracker Barrell.
It's a little rough on me, because I Do all the driving while my fiancee slept :-) but that's ok, I'm a good driver but a slightly nervous passenger. It would be great to do it now that I have an XM radio though :-)

The hardest part is coming home. Driving down is fun knowing you're going ot Disney. Driving home for work. YEUCH.

Ok, maybe I will think more about driving and our 7 little tickets will let the airlines know, we hate their rates. Just kidding about the airlines caring what I think. But the rates may be too high to deal with this year.

I hear ya about the cost from newark$$$$$ We went last Sept and going againthis Sept. Last year Jet Blue out of JFK great price 59 one way and 79 home. But it is the trip to JKF. If you can find someone to take you that is great. I have looked for this year and Song is 114 each way out of Newark and 59 each way out of JFK. What a rip off!!! They have you right where they want you. Air Tran has no info out yet it is to early and the major airlines are inthe 250-300 price range for round trip.

What a great thread lets's all keep it going and if anyone finds a cheap flight PLEASE PM me. I read on another travel board that if you sign up with the airlines they e-mail you in advance when the specials will be. Have fun shopping and enjoy your trip.

Yeah I know it was cheaper to fly out of JFK, but I'm saving about $200 for my fiance and I, but we'd need to wake up much earlier, pay someone to take us out there, most likely a limo would cost more than the price difference.

hi

airfare was about 250 a person x 3 for us

plus my sons disabled and we can take his chair not rent one

we are going down over easter leaving the thursday before missing 1 day of school and taking 2 days to drive

my only undecided is do i go straight down 95

I have 3 kids and my youngest has special needs which is one reason why driving might be desirable. She has a lot of sensory stuff going on and last time she was banging the airplane window (not good) and it was all I could do to stop her from going after a bald guy's head sitting in front of us, luckily he was a really nice guy. Also, having a car in disney would be make getting around to the nonmonorail resorts and parks much easier. The only problem is will our butts feel like they are falling off by the end of this excursion and will my 80 year old mom be able to handle it?

I started pricing airfare a few weeks ago and I couldn't believe how expensive Newark was!!! lowest price I got was $250/pp (this is for 1st-2nd week of May). I priced Spirit out of Atlantic City and it was only $150/pp but I didn't realize at the time how much prices jump around and now its up to $235/pp.

I am really, really praying that prices go down soon. I'd much rather fly out of Newark but AC is an easy drive so I will do that if the price goes back down. When you are paying for 4 seats these prices can really kill you.

I actually came to this forum tonight trying to find tips on getting lower airfare. :confused3

NJdisneymom I sent you a pm

Try LaGuardia.............I know everyone "hates" it but most of them have never even been there.

Fares on AA out of laguardia during May nonstop per person: Under $150

HTH someone in Jersey!

curly

Fact-flying out of Newark will always be more expensive than LGA or JFK. If you hate the thought of driving there, price out a car service. I bet it will still be cheaper. :moped: :teacher:
