Just wondering where the west coast folks usually fly out of? Vancouver airport would be the most convenient airport for us. Any recommendations for certain airlines? What price do you normally get for two adults? How far in advance do you book your airfare?
Thanks so much.

(We're hoping to go late Sept. 2005)

We're flying out of Sea-tac on December 27 with America West. Definitely saved some money.

It's definitely not cheap to fly out of Vancouver. I like www.travelocity.ca though, I set my fare watcher to keep an eye on flight prices from YVR-MCO, and SEA-MCO. Depending on how many people you have, it may be worth it to try and fly from Seattle. On my last trip we had seven, so the savings was about $600-700 in total. Definitely worth it.

Just booked with Air Canada for period Jan 31/05 to Feb 16/04: from Vancouver to Orlando return: $508.00 including all taxes/fees and charge for seat selection.

I usually fly out of Seattle, the cost is usually around $400CDN, but the four hour drive each way, plus the additional cost of parking at Seattle makes it more expensive IMHO

Hope you get your flight at a great price

March 24-April 4/05. Got a flight on Alaska Air flying out of SEATAC for $314 USD per person, thru AlaskaAir.com. Since we have our two young DDs with us, we decided on the non-stop flight from SEATAC to MCO (5 hrs, 30 min). We'd leave our car at Master Parking (SEATAC's version of a park 'n fly) for a cost of ~$80 USD for a 10-day period. TOTAL (airfare and parking): $1336 USD

We also picked flight times that helped us avoid staying overnight in Seattle.

We could've gotten a cheaper flight (around $238 USD) on American Airlines flying from SEATAC to MCO with a stopover in Ft. Worth-Dallas. The flight would've been around 7-8 hours.

I would've picked the cheaper flight since I'm a bargain hunter...but my DH didn't want to do the plane switch and wait around an airport bit -- especially with our two DDs in tow.

Good luck with your planning!

We did the red-eye flight from Seattle last year (hmm, this is my second post in the same thread) - I believe we had a stopover, although I don't think we had to switch planes. I felt like a zombie though - our flight didn't leave Seattle until something like midnight or later (I believe it may have been delayed.) Somehow we made it to our house in Kissimmee, and from there I have very little memory of what happened until the evening b/c I was just soooo tired. But I still think flying out of Seattle was worth it! :)

We also fly out of Sea-tac and the savings for our trip in May is $1152. We also have a hard time with the drive so for under $100 for 6 of us one way we are taking the train, it is a 3 hour trip and we look at it as a part of the adventure.

You posted about the train before and I thought it was for 3 people. So for 6 people you are paying $100 each way? Where does the train leave from? Can you give me some more info and possibly websites that I can check out. It sounds like a really neat way to start our adventure.
Thanks
Kath

Hi Kath,

The train is an Amtrak and leaves from the staion across form Science World. If you go to

http://www.amtrak.com/servlet/ContentServer?pagename=Amtrak/HomePage

you can figure out the cost and the times the train is running. We have friends in Edmonds so we are staying with them for the night and then catching a shuttle (1-800-487-7433- or www.shuttleexpress.com) to the airport the next morning. The shuttle comes right to your door and I thought it was reasonable too. I think I am just as excited about taking the train as I am about anything else. I hope this helps and have fun planning.

P.S. My last post did say there were just 3 of us because I am taking the 2 middle children a week ahead of DH and the 12 and 2 year olds. DS12 does not want to miss too much school and after much heartrenching debate, DD2 will stay back with DGM and DF. They will also travel by train when they leave just a week later. For the 3 of us it was $41 Usd which would be $49 Cdn today.

Thanks for all the info and links!
Nothing works out with our schedule though as our flight departs at 6:15am.
Thanks again for all the info.
