It is looking more and more like there might be a move to N.S in our future. I was really looking forward to the cheap airfare to fly out of Syracuse for our trip in Nov, but now I may have to start budgeting for the out-of-control Canadian flights instead. Has anyone flown out of Halifax recently who could give me some historical data on what I can expect (roughly) to pay for flights end Oct/ early Nov to MCO or SFB? Any and all info will be appreciated. Thanks.

 Hi there. There are not many carriers that fly direct to Orlando from Halifax, but I usually fly on Canjet (canjet.com). We are going in April and our flights are approximately $700 CDN round trip. The flight times are generally around 4 hours (no frills) and arrive in Orlando at 11:00 AM and depart Orlando at 11:55 AM. Hope this helps and have fun. BTW you will love NS!

:faint: Please tell me that this is not PER PERSON!

I'm sure I will love NS, I was born and raised there ( I just really, really love living in Ottawa

Afraid so. I know people who will drive down rather than pay that much. My only saving grace for us (DW, DS9 andDD6) is the amount of business travel I do, so points paid for part of the trip. At least our $ is decent now so that helps. :confused3

Friends of mine flew Halifax - Toronto - Orlando and back with West Jet this past October and paid $79 each way. That's before all the taxes and airport fees...even with that it was a great rate.

Westjet is definitely the cheaper way to go. The only problem from my viewpoint was the connections in Toronto. The layover time in Toronto and the extra flight distance costs you around 2 1/2 hours going and 4 1/2 hours coming back. It really depends on how much you value your time and how much you like to be in airports. They have flights on their website now that will cost you around $440 all-in round-trip. Good luck!!

$380pp or so, taxes in, for the four of us...

I REALLY watch the airfares starting at the 330day mark. The charters usually don't have their fares out that early, unfortunately:(

Base fare, we paid $122o/w. This is for flights in January, early February. September and October, historically, have been about the same.

I try to book the early am flight to YYZ or YUL, then on the 10:30 flight out of YYZ (3:30pm YUL) The YYZ flight arrives just after 1pm, the YUL flight at 6:30 or so. Coming home, flights leave MCO throughout the day...we usually jump on the 2pm one, home in NS at 11pm...

The Airport Hotel rates are usually $100/night,there's a shuttle, pool, restuarant - we stay overnight at both ends, that way, we can leave the Jeep at no charge:)

HTH!!

:sunny:

We have driven down a few times becuase the airfare was way too high. Last March we used our points and this March we are actually paying to fly. I booked last May on Continental and paid $398.00 cdn per person. This was excellent. Living in Halifax has been hard for us. I am from BC and would pay around $900.00 (taxes in) for airfare (times 4 of us) to Victoria. Very frustrating.

Thanks for the responses, my heart rate is finally starting to slow down after seeing Jeff's prices!

MBB, those rates are not outrageous, so that gives me hope!

Bea, I feel your pain with the airfare, last year we drove the 3.5 hours to Syracuse and paid $903 CDN for the 4 of us.

We are flying from Halifax to Orlando in March for $440/per person taxes in. Last year we paid over $500 but I started watching earlier this year. There are cheaper rates at different times of the year but if you can't travel at those times (school) then you have to pay a bit more.

We paid like $370-390 (I forget which..) in October all fees in. Luckily we put *everything* on our RoyalBank Avion card, and get the Blue Airmiles when we can, as well as our Aeroplan points (have to plan far ahead for using those tho) and have accumulated enough with all our points for 9 flights to Florida so far (YAY!).. so hopefully it won't matter what the fares are for the next little while!

Flying out of YHZ isn't bad at all, you just need to do a little planning ahead. I remember watching the flights and it was the same price to fly from Halifax to Orlando as it was Toronto to Orlando. I'm hopefully going to catch one of the direct flights in February.. can't wait to not have a layover!

We are paying $545 each for a direct flight on Canjet on Dec 26th. I know there were cheaper flights at other times of the year but it is the only time we can all go now. It will be worth it for a direct flight as we leave 8:15pm and get to Orlando around 11:30am.

WE are going in April and paid $400. taxes in. Lasy year we paid over $500 for each. So this is much better. We have to change in Toronto, but not as long a wait as previous years. We leave at 5:35 pm, leave yyz at 8:30 pm. WE have long enough to do customs and get a bite to eat. Coming back we lwave MCO at 8:00 and get to YHZ at 3:15. Not a long lay over in Toronto at all. At least this way we can do more than 7 days and less than 14. We prefer 10-12 days. Leaving at 5:35 we are able to work most of the day.
