There is NOTHING reasonable right now for October flights. I'm sure come the summer they will have a seat sale....right? I went in January 2005 and flew direct and it was great! And we only paid $525 taxes in per ticket! Not sure if they have direct flights in the fall. And on the flights coming home, you leave orlando at 3:55pm and get to Halifax at like 10 or 11pm!! Thats nuts.

Anyone from Halifax that can reassure me that there should be half decent prices and times?

I just talked to an agent from Maritime Travel and she said Canjet usually has their fall flights to orlando in their computers in March/April and they are direct flights and well priced!

I hope Westjet has a seat sale too as I should have enough airmiles to get one ticket and then only have to pay for the other one.

No good news here but hey, I share your pain. Never have managed to get a decent schedule or price. The best we did for schedule was last year, flew out around 6:15 am and in Orlando at 11:30. But that was a cliffhanger because we had to go through customs and immigration in Newark and believe me, 1 hour and 20 minutes was not a comfortable connection! And when we got to Orlando we were too pooped from waking up at 4 am to do much anyway.

I'm hoping that once the preclearance is fully operational, we can make better connections and thus get better schedules. Direct flights would be awesome but I never manage to find any I can afford.

Please keep us posted! Halifax... a great place to live, a hard place to leave (in more ways than one)

I know what you mean. October 04 we were able to grab flights for $392 with all fees. We booked Aeroplan for our flights this October only because the rest of the tickets were sooo expensive. We put everything on our Avion card so we can get a ticket anytime once we're out of Aeroplan points.
Nothing better than flying direct to Orlando though! What a great time saver. If only it was a fall/winter thing. :(

:thumbsup2 Hang in there! Last August, I began checking for flights for our Feb. 2006 trip. The prices seemed to keep increasing. Ouch. In November, after checking on-line constantly, checking the travel store brochures, spending time with a counsellor at one of the local travel agents, I thought, just for the heck of it, I would try the travel agent for our TD gold travel visa. You can check on-line through their site but doing that was too pricy, coming out to $4300. I decided, just for the heck of it, to actually call the TD gold travel company. I am thrilled that I did. She was able to find me flights, for 6 adults, cheaper by $500-700 than I had been able to find anywhere else. Needless to say I booked it very quickly. The total worked out to about $3700 for the 6 of us as compared to $4700 and $4300 which is what I seemed to find elsewhere. I was also able to use come of my accumulated points/money to bring that down even more. Our Air Canada flights leave Hfx at 6:40 a.m, transfers in Montreal and arrive in Orlando at noon. Great time. Coming home, we leave at 8:00 a.m., transfer in Toronto and arrive back here around 3:00 in the afternoon. The times fit great for us. I am so glad I hung in there and kept trying any avenue I could think of. So....my advice.....hang in there....and actually call places instead on relying on the on-line prices....you never know what you can find. Good luck & happy planning :wave2:

Well I have no idea what flights are like for October...we got a great deal in August for our January trip...$525 tax in direct.

Just wondering if anyone has gone at this time and what their options were. I hope the agent I was talking to is right by saying in March/April Canjet will have direct flights in their computers for the fall.

Keep us posted. I've never been able to get direct flights in December... they seem to start in January.

Remember the TIME DIFFERENCE. That's really only 6 or 7 hours of travel time. Not bad if you can't get a direct flight.

Hi There,

Got tired of waiting for Aug/Sept. Just booked 1 way with AC and 1 way with Canjet, $580 taxes in. You may want to check that method out.

Don't trust Air Canada's direct flights from Halifax to Orlando. We paid $2250 for 3 people because of the 4 hour direct but AC cancelled the direct and now we have a flight with stop over that has turned into 6 hours to and 10 hours return with no compensation. Again there are no guarantees with AC. In the future I will be going with the best value carrier and it won't be AC!

If you are close to New Brunswick, you may want to drive to Bangor (4.5 hours). We bought ticket for 4 of us in October for about 1400 CDN.

Unfortunately flying out of Bangor is too far for us. As it is, we have to drive 4-5 hours to fly from Halifax! The costs this year have been outrageous. I find that you really have to check every day, sometimes twice a day. Canjet and Westjet have both had flights around $500-$525 return/taxes in. They don't last long and are usually only certain days per week but it is worth it if you can get one. We got our tickets through Airmiles this year--62 days to go!! Good luck with the searching and don't give up. Check these boards daily--when something good comes up, everyone shares!! :teeth:

Remember...you can always do what I did and get 1 way with 1 airline and 1 with another.

April 30 - May 3 - Air Canada to Boston and then JetBlue to Orlando (Return the same) ($525.00)

August 30 - September 9th - Air Canada on the way down and CanJet on the way back ($580.00)

PS - Toronto has some of the highest landing fees in the country, avoid if possible and save both time and money!

PPS - 63 Days for us! OKW!

I have flown to Orlando from Halifax in the Fall the last two years and there are NO flights direct from Halifax at that time of year. Traditionally, Jan to the end of May is it unless there is something new starting up that I haven't heard about. Both years I ended up paying about $3600 for four people which is crazy but hey, we were going to Disney.....

Keep in mind a couple of things when looking at airfare from Halifax. It is cheaper to fly to Orlando Tuesday to Thursday. Tampa is even cheaper still and it is only 75 minutes from Disney. The best I have seen is $239 each way to Orlando ($213 to Tampa). With taxes and everythnig that amounts to $560 to $600 per person.

If you can make your way to Bangor Delta is $291 US taxes in to Orlando. Boston is even cheaper at just over $220 US taxes in.
