I added 2 days to my trip coming up in December. I haven't purchased my airfare yet but when I price it on the USAIR site, it is double for leaving on the Saturday, Dec 2, before my original date of Dec 4. That seems kind of crazy to me. I wasn't planning on buying my ticket until sometime late summer because I was hoping the cheap rates will come in by then. I would hate to shorten my trip by 2 days because of wacky airfares.

Beware that, in general, airfares are on the rise.

I have found USAirways fares to be outrageous PIT/MCO. They are down to 3 flights a day each way, I don't think they want to compete with Southwest's low fares, they are mainly looking for the business traveler. I would wait for Southwest to come out. AirTran usually has good fares but they are down to 1 flight each way and their times are not great (unless you want to connect in Atlanta).

I was supposed to go to Disney this May, and I had already bought my ticket on USAIR, when I was diagnosed with cancer. I had to postpone my trip until after my chemo was finished and I could only get a voucher for what I paid for my May ticket. Unless I want to lose my $200, I have to use USAIR.

Why are you surprised?

Travel costs are often based on the day of the week of travel. Lower fares are usually offered for midweek travel, not weekends.

The quota of cheap seats was exhausted from the flight you wanted to take.

It is not unusual for the Sunday and Saturday after Thanksgiving late day non-stops to shoot up to business fare or ful fare a few hours after IPO, now that so many people are waiting on line to pounce on the cheap seats.

Jet Blue is coming to Pittsburgh in June. You should try booking them instead.

Jet Blue is flying from Pittsburgh to JFK and Boston. They do offer connections to Orlando from JFK, but the prices are high. I priced some dates in August, it was about $300 roundtrip. Instead of a 2 hour non-stop flight, you are looking at around 6 hours with the layover at JFK.

There's always waiting for SW to open up dates for Dec.

Hope you are responding well to your treatment. I start my chemo on 5/11, 3 days after our return from WDW.

If you were pricing the ticket on Friday it may be worth your money to wait until Monday/Tuesday of next week as airfare often goes up on weekends (including Fridays) only to drop off again during the week.

My fare was double if I choose to leave on Sunday after Thanksgiving then leaving on Friday after Thanksgiving. SO I get 2 more days for a cheaper fare. You have to play the game with the airlines as well as with WDW and their hotel rates.
