We have 4 adults staying in a BWV studio. I recall reading somewhere about the idea of placing an airbed on the sleeper sofa to make the accomodations more comfortable.

Does anyone have experience with this?

How would this work with the existing bedding?

How easy/difficult is it to transport an airbed if you are flying in?

Sorry if this has already been addressed, but I cannot access the search funtion.

Thanks

Thanks for asking this question. I have the same one and was wondering the same thing.:D :) :)

I believe the studio sofa is a sofa bed, so it would have a mattress on it already. Are you talking about putting an airbed on top of the sofabed mattress? If so, it wouldn't be difficult...just blow it up and put it on there. We just got back from BCV, and a friend of ours slept on the sofabed in our living room area and said it was fairly comfortable.

As far as packing an air mattress...it would depend on how big of a package it was. I would assume you'd either put it in a box or a suitcase and check it on the plane. That's how I'd do it at least, although IMHO it seems like more trouble than it's worth.

Just a point of info...4 adults in a studio is tight. You might want to consider a 1 BR

The airbed would be in addition to the sleeper sofa mattress to give more comfort and support. I am not familiar with the DVC rooms at all and have read both pros and cons regarding the sofabeds. Rather than take a chance, we wanted to try this idea.

I recall one guest commenting about placing the airbed under the mattress but I cannot retrieve this thread.

I was hoping someone may be familiar with this - particularly how this would work with the existing bedding and how to transport one. I don't personally own an airbed so I have nothing to go on.

I understand the space may be small for 4 adults but we have a grand villa/2 studios for our trip and the studios are basically to provide a good nights sleep.

Thanks for your help!

If you get an Aero Bed, it comes in a cloth carry case. We brought one down for our last trip and simply carried it onto the plane. We had no problems doing it this way.

In our case, it was twin sized. (DD's boyfriend was joining us, and our son did not want to share the pull out with him.)

We also brought sheets for it. We left the bed set up in the corner of the living room, and, surprisingly, housekeeping left a set of sheets for it when they cleaned the room.

I hope this helps. :D

Hi Crusader!

We recently bought an Aerobed at www.overstock.com we got the single size for somewhere around 47.00 shipped (we had a 5.00 off code to use)... It's really great, it blows up in about a minute & you can deflate it super fast if you want to... You could try it with the sofabed & see if you like it, if you don't like it, just put it on the floor... I laid on it & it felt pretty comfortable to me... Even though we get a 1 bedroom, we find it to be a hassle to fold up the cough everyday for our son, that's why we got the Aerobed, we'll totally avoid the sofabed...

and put it directly on the floor. We do this all the time at ALL hotels. Even at my MIL's house whose sofabed is brand new.

Older sofabeds had strings that was tied on to the springs but I have not experienced this at hotels lately but at other people's houses who still have older model sofabeds.

Each morning, we just put the mattress back and use the sofa as a sitting sofa.

Some people (my DH) does not like having to bend down to lay on the bed. I just tell him to pretend we are camping and our tent just happens to be nicely air-conditioned or heated.

Have fun,

MMCD

Isn't the mattress a bit thin to be on the floor by itself? Since it will be a couple using this, I was thinking the airbed would give it an added lift and be more comfortable.

Chris1gill that aerobed sounds really great but I am having trouble accessing that website. I am curious how it inflates so easily and would love to hear more about it.

Thanks again

Hi Crusader,

I agree about the mattress being too thin on the floor... I updated the Overstock link above (it had a comma at the end), but here's the link to follow to get 10% off your purchase:

www.overstock.com/cgi-bin/d2.cgi?cid=24120

The Aerobed comes with a handy dandy little motor that you just plug into the wall for about sixty seconds while the bed inflates. When you want to deflate the bed all you do is open the flap & all the air comes right out, no real work involved.... The bed also takes regular sized sheets... I got the inexpensive single model, only because some of the rooms we'll be in in Australia will be small & floor space limited (Gotta love the European style hotel rooms )... both kids can still fit on the single, so that's what we went with... I'm very happy with it, especially at half the price!

Just an update, I went to the site, they don't have the inexpensive single model yet, but I think I saw one for 59.99 in the single size... There's a full size bed for 59.99, that's the one we have, just in the smaller size & it's perfectly great...

We purchased a Aero bed for my Grandmother during our trip in December 2001. We thought the same as you, and were trying to make it as comfortable as possible for her. Well, it never made it out of the bag! She said the sofabed was quite comfortable. We purchased the full size and it was no problem to carry it on to the plane.

Sofabed mattresses are at least 4 inches thick. Go to your local furniture store and check out a sofabed. Or just call and ask a salesperson.

I've got a an Aerobed, Coleman, and a Greatland (Target brand) blow up mattress. I like the Aerobed's blow up method because it is already connected to the mattress. The other 2 have to be connected but it is not a bother to blow up. I just got to remember to pack the blower. Each night of use, I still have to add air. Maybe it could be because I've got kids and seeing a mattress on the floor tends to make them jump on it. I sleep just as well on any of the 3 brands. The Greatland and the Coleman are 1/3 the cost of an Aerobed. You might be able to find an Aero on clearance at Target. I saw a queen size for $60 near me.

You should try sleeping on a foam matress pad and see if it is comfy. These are about 2 inches thick. Sometimes they are like egg carton shaped foam. Here's a link from Target:

Good Luck!!

A mattress 4 inches thick probably won't be enough for an adult couple.

I recall seeing some airbeds on sale at our local Target as well.

I cannot thank everyone enough for helping to distinguish between brands.

I picked up a queen size Greatland ( I think) at Target about 2 weeks ago for $25. It has a rechargeable electric pump which I thought was nice. If you camped you wouldn't have to have electricity to blow it up. I tried it out on our living room floor and thought it was pretty comfortable ( and at 7months pregnant, that's pretty good). I was even able to deflate it and put it back into it's original box. It does not come with a carry bag, but for the difference in price for an Aerobed, I can purchase a cheap duffel bag to throw it in if neccessary.

Thanks also to everyone who replied, beings we had the same question. We are convinced now that this is just what we need. It's better to be safe than sorry. I don't think it will be that much more trouble to take it with us when we go. Most of the time we drive and those times when we fly, and we're going to have other people with us, I think I could always ship it.

Thanks again everybody,
Michele
