Air Travel and Weather

Oh my goodness yes! Wow what a small world. We live right outside of Longview. Really what are the chances of that...too funny. Well I hope for both of our sakes that the crazy weather does not affect our flight. We will have to keep each other informed and updated ::yes::

My vacation officially starts when I get off work at 7:15am this morning, but my husband won't be getting off until 3:00pm and works about 45 minutes from here. I had already booked Park & Fly and was planning on driving from home early Friday morning and just leaving the car there. We'd be leaving the house between 2:30am and 3:00am, which is what we usually do. However, it now looks like the temps are going to drop rapidly (17-26 degrees at night) and they've moved the bad weather up to Thursday afternoon in Dallas (ice/sleet). http://www.accuweather.com/en/us/dallas-tx/75201/daily-weather-forecast/351194 We decided not to take a chance on driving on icy roads in the dark. I just went online and booked a Park & Stay hotel about a mile from the airport. We'll be leaving home to go to Dallas as soon as my husband can get in, take a shower, and get the car packed. Are you guys driving all the way from Longview that early or staying in the Dallas area overnight? The Dallas forcast is calling for ice/sleet Friday morning. Hopefully they'll be able to get the wings de-iced and we'll be able to take off close to the 0600 scheduled time.

Just FYI: there is supposedly alot of road construction around the north entrance to DFW right now.

I have a follow up question for anyone familiar with American Airlines. Will they wait until the very last minute to cancel a flight to keep from having to refund the cost of the ticket or will they cancel early enough to allow passengers the chance to make alternate travel arrangements....like a day in advance?

I guess you got the same message we just did, that our flight just got canceled. They put us on a flight with a layover in Miami, leaving DFW at 5:45am getting into Orlando at 1:20pm. I called and after being on hold 55 minutes got us moved to a direct/nonstop flight leaving at 7:25am and landing at MCO at 10:50am. We were lucky enough to get three seats together in row 13. They were the $38.00 'Main Cabin Extra' seat with the extra leg room. Because they were the ones that canceled our original flight though, we did not have to pay for them. Apparently FL# 276 was canceled due to weather, where it was originating from and they are unable to get it to Dallas. However the rep I was speaking to was in Dallas and said that right now the weather was cold, but clear. Good luck with your flight!

Unfortunately, looks like this flight was cancelled. It looks like all American DFW-MCO were cancelled today. The 5:45am to Miami was also cancelled.

Hopefully they will find a flight tomorrow.

:confused3

If they cancel as passengers are boarding or weeks in advance, you still get a choice of a refund or rescheduling your flight. Why would you think an airline canceling a flight at the last minute means you won't get your money back?
