We were booked on non-stop flights with AT for our Oct. trip. But of course they already canceled those flights. So now we are looking at changing planes in Milwaukee on the way down and Atlanta on the way home. Both are short layovers. Like 40 min or less. Is it possible to make these flight with 2 kids. age 5 and 7. Are the gates next to each other in these airports? Any help would be appreciated.

Easy as pie in Milwaukee. The farthest gate for Airtran is maybe a 3 minute walk. They are all on the end of concourse C. You'll have plenty of time.

My sister/niece are flying from MSP to MCO through MKE next week and have pretty much the same schedule as you describe.

Yes, 40 minutes in ATL meets AirTran's minimum connecting time rule. Keep in mind that if an airline publishes a connection then it's their job to get you to your destination.
