Air Tran Question

I've only flown SW but now that they've merged (or whatever) it seems like AT is handling the bulk of nonstop flights from BWI to MCO. When I booked I got a notice saying AT seating is assigned but that I can change when I get to the airport if seats are available. I haven't yet seen any info and what seats I've been assigned. When do I find out? At check in at the airport or before?

You can either pay an additional price (depending on the seats you want) or you can just get whatever is available once you board the plane. I don't think they assign you seats ...unless you booked something other than "coach" class, then I wouldn't know cause that's the only way we fly :rotfl2:

this is incorrect.

'currently' if you book an AT flight thru the SWA site you cannot pay to select seats or utilizle EBIC via SWA. I was told that we would find our our assigned seat numbers when we arrive at the AT airport desk where we would print out our boarding passes.

I've been told by both AT & SWA that 'currently' i wouldn't be able to check in at 24 hours on either AT or SWA site.

i am holding out hope that 'currently' may morph into eventual seamless integration and ability to checkin online/purchase or do the EBIC.

Yes, there was a message when I booked saying that bc it was an AT flight through the SWA site that I couldn't book EBCI. On the AT site it says if you booked a flight on the SWA site that you couldn't pay to select seats. :rolleyes1 I just didn't understand about the being assigned seats. It would make sense if it was when we checked in but I was hoping (and still will since I'm not flying till Oct) that I'll be able to make sure I'm sitting with my kids.

Ooops my bad sorry ! I read your post as though you were booking through Air Tran's web site. Just curious ...could you not get the same flight booking directly through Air Tran ? Then you would be able to pick your seat if you wanted to.

I wondered this too. I actually like AT better because I just pay the $6 seats and pick seats next to my children rather than the SW way of walking on board and hoping to get seats next to your children. Yes, I know you can pay $10 for a better chance of sitting together. If I did not have my children with me, I wouldn't care where I sat.

I've never flown AT before and was hoping for a SW flight that worked with my schedule. I don't mind flying AT, I'm just a novice at doing so. I've never had a problem with getting seats together for the 3 of us on SW and I'm hopeful not to have a problem this time. There's a lot of time btw now and our flight in Oct and hopefully we'll be able to buy seats or do ebci. I don't mind that our seats are assigned--I was just wondering when I'd know what seats those were so I'd know if I did want to change them. Finding out at the airport is fine with me :-)

We just went through a dilemma yesterday when booking our flights for October.
Both SW and AT had similar seat prices for the same flight.

My husband wanted to book through AirTran so he could pay the extra money for assigned seats (because we have a nine year old and six year old).

I wanted to book through SW so our bags would be free. I also wanted to book with SW because of their no charge to change a ticket.

We ended up booking through AT and I am second guessing this decision.
