Air Miles Warning *possibly false*

I was just at Michaels and handed her my air miles card, only to be informed they didnt' do them any more. I had totally forgotten!

However - the warning:

The cashier knows "somebody on the inside" (which I took to mean she knows somebody who works for Air Miles). By 2017, the program will be gone, and you will lose all your miles. As in, the company is on the way out, and Air Miles will be no longer.

No idea if there is truth to it or not, but you all are the biggest gang of collectors I know, so I thought I'd pass it on!!

OK this information is completely WRONG! What she will have heard and misunderstood, is that a LOT of people will be having Airmiles expire soon. I just used the on-line chat to get a definitive answer to alleviate everyone's concerns! Here's the transcript:

I hope you share your tips with friends and family. It is all about how you shop for sure. I do the same. Stock up when things I use are on Bonus miles.

Can you go in and edit your title to let others know that this warning is false?

Weird - I posted on a FAcebook group as well, and a second person has said they have a family member who works for the program in redemptions and they are saying the same thing!

And on top of all that, Anyone who reaches and maintains Onyx level, their points never expire. Right like I am never using those points..lol

Saying the same thing? (That the program is shutting down?). Someone in redemptions would not be privy to this information if it were going to happen. This would be a well guarded high level corporate secret until it was rolled out publicly. Sure there may be changes coming, these happen all the time. The Airmiles program is a money maker for the corporate entity. You would see an awful lot of retail locations backing out of their support of the program long before "Airmiles" would be in trouble. The coming and going of a few retailers is just the flow of the business.
