Air Jordans

My 12 year old just told me he wants Air Jordans for Christmas. They are $150.

I told him the most we will spend on shoes is $75 and that is ONLY because he takes very good care of his shoes, I still think that is ridiculous for a pair of shoes for a 12 year old who will grow out of them.

Am I unreasonable?

Nope your not being unreasonable in this bad economy plus he will outgrow them quick.

Unreasonable? Nope. DGD wanted a pair of Uggs to the tune of about $200 but she was young and her feet were still growing. So I made her wait until it looked like her shoe size had stabilized and then I caved in and bought them for her for Christmas. Within less than six months I found out she left them on the floor in her room and the dog had chewed them. I know you said your son takes good care of his shoes, but still. . .rule now with DGD is if she wants something that extravagant she needs to save for it, use Birthday gift /Christmas present money, etc.

I think reasonable if your budget allows. My son doesn't ask for much but likes his shoes. It is a big deal in their peer group. My daughter asked for Tory Burch "Miller" sandals that are $199. I did find them for $165 on black friday. At least she and I wear the same size and she wears sandals year around even to school.

I checked BradsDeals.com and Nike.com is having a sale for $104 with tax and shipping with their code.

He says he will pay the extra $30.

So, he is getting his Air Jordans 1 Retro shoes!

Do you use Ebates? I noticed Footlocker, Champs and Finish line had 10% back. Footlocker and Champs was offering $20 off for spending over $100.

I am buying my ds13 a pair of Jordan's tomorrow (if I can get them before they sell out). I have gotten him a pair of sneakers for the last 2 Christmases and I will for this one. He doesn't ask for much more than that and he is a "sneakerhead".
He also saves his money and buys his own pairs. He just bought a pair of Lebron something or others for basketball using his birthday money.

I don't think its unreasonable to not spend that kind of money on shoes they will outgrow. I have a budget for each of my kids on Christmas so my ds knows that if I buy him $150 sneakers there will be less to spend on other stuff he may want. So, for me it isn't unreasonable to do it once a year.

My son also doesn't ask for much and the only time he gets a pair or Jordan's or Lebron's are on Christmas or his birthday (xh and I split the birthday pair). He also gets a pair at the beginning of the school year (for the last 3 school years) that his father gets him. He loves sneakers. They are his "thing" I guess. He takes very good care of them. The last pair he got were $190. At almost 17 years old his foot has pretty much stopped growing.

He also saves cash and asks for footlocker gift cards from grandparents, aunts, uncles, etc. for Christmas and his birthday.

The ones I tried to get this morning were excluded. The Lebrons that my ds bought weren't which surprised me. I'm pretty sure they are the latest release of them.

The same shoes are $159 at Footlocker. A $20 off is still $139 and that doesn't include tax or shipping. I paid $97 plus $8 tax.

I have good luck purchasing Jordan's at the Nike outlet. I bought a pair 2 weeks ago in Florida for $59.00 I've also bought a pair in Canada at the Nike outlet for $70. My nephew asks for them for every occasion so I try and get a head start on gifts.

Right now, that's what's "in", I don't agree with it, but if you don't have "good" tennis shoes in DD's middle school, you get teased. I would get them. Even the girls at her school wear $100-250 shoes. My DD gets them from her grandparents, us, her own bday money and all. She understands that may be her only gift from them.

He wanted this specific pair this time, so I find it better to just buy online. But next time we are near one, I will take him and see if he finds anything he likes there.
