Air Canada Rouge

I booked on AC quite a while ago, for February. I purposely avoided Rouge cause I wanted the inflight entertainment as I hate to fly. I checked today and I have been changed to Rouge flights and no one has advised me of anything yet.

Time to start checking WestJet

You will have in flight entertainment. However, it will be on your personal device as they will be streaming their movies etc to your iPad/laptop etc.

Thank, yeah I had read that but I don't generally take my lap top and don't take my iphone to the US so I am stuck. I think I should have been givin the option to cancel without penalty since "they" changed what I originally booked but I know that won't happen.

I guess I should start looking for a good book to take ;)

How are they going to do that? I think it would have to be a major improvement over Air Canada's onboard entertainment for me to even want to do that.

The Air Canada iPad app has already been updated with the "Rouge IFE". You simply download the Air Canada app from the Apple App Store. Once on board the aircraft (after takeoff presumably) you connect to the onboard WiFi for approx $5, and get access to their catalogue of movies, music, TV.

The only catch......no power ports to charge your device onboard! So better have a fully charged iPad before flying. Not so much an issue YYZ-MCO, but certainly for TATL (transatlantic Europe) flights.

Buyer beware!

so what if you don't have an iPad>

Early word is that they might be loaning some from free. Haven't seen any reports on that yet though.

LOL....now we all know nothing is going to be free! I can't imagine trying to watch a movie on my iPhone. What irks me is that they are likely marketing this as a big "plus" to their flights but in reality it's a way for them to grab another 5 bucks per person. Plus they save $$$ by not needing the screens in the cabin.

It really surprises me how Air Canada still has customers. First they charge for food on short flights, next they charge an extra fuel fee, then a second bag fee which changes into a fee for all checked bags. Now they want people to pay to use an app on an iPad so they can watch movies and other stuff, what's next charging poel for seat belts?

Yes, I agree. But it seems the only way some airlines are profitable today is because of their surcharges.

What bothers me the most is my flights that I booked on a AC normal flight with inflight entertainment has been changed to Rouge no one has even told me yet. I went online and checked it out.

Only reason AC has customers is because we don't have a lot of choices out of Canada.

I only have two choices...AC or WestJet. A portion of my last WestJet flight (Vancouver to Hawaii ) had smaller seats and no entertainment either. It was a longer flight so I wrongly assumed there would be in-flight entertainment. Nothing. It was long...

It seems we have to settle to pay incredibly high fares for less than optimum experiences. Flying from the US is not an option (unless I want to drive at least 12 hours in the winter). It is not good...although I feel fortunate that my biggest problem is getting the best flight for a Disney vacation! :)

Just looking at prices for January. Went with West Jet even though they were a bit more because Rouge's change fee is $200 per person, per direction. That would be $1000 each way for my family of five. West jet charges only a flat rate of $75. So they take away entertainment, luggage, food, seat pitch (a pathetic 29 inches on rouge), make you pay for seat selection ($300) roughly for my family and now crazy change fees. They have probably lost my business for good, unless I find a crazy low price at some point.

I booked my flights through airmiles. How do I tell if the are Rouge flights? I looked up the planes I will be on and it says they have inflight entertainment (individual screens)..

EDIT: I just looked and it says Flex, Type W. Does that mean not Rouge?

I also noticed they have changed my flight times for the third time. I now leave MCO 1.5 hours earlier which means I have to get up early.

I will be calling airmiles to complain about the change and the fact that they didn't tell me.

Go on the A/C website and enter your dates. On the left hand column you will see a Maple Leaf (Air Canada) or a weird looking R (Rouge)

If AC changed your flights, go to their web site and check alternative flights. Then call AC and get them to change them to a more apropriate time for you. They changed them not you, we have had no issues with doing this in the past and just had to do it last week for our Dec. trip.

We booked our dec flights back in Feb., and they are Rogue flights. I just checked and they have changed the flight departure time from 8.05 to 9:30 a.m.. No big deal as long as we get there

AC did change my flights, but I booked through Airmiles, so I will have to go through them.

I have already been on hold for 16 mins and they said 6-10.......
