Ahmaud Arbery VERDICTS -- GUILTY

I’m happy with the sentences. You can hunt down and kill animals but not people. They were clearly able to get his photo. If they thought he committed a crime, then that photo and a description of what they saw should behave been given to the police.

You can’t chase someone down to do a citizen’s arrest if you didn’t see them commit the crime, either. I’m glad that they are getting such serious sentences. Hopefully it will deter others who might do the same.

One of the nice things about video cameras on phones is that some criminals post their crimes online. Really makes it easier to catch them.

It's a harsh sentence, but then it was a very dastardly crime. Obviously the defendants will appeal the sentences, but I doubt if they'll get them reduced.

Hopefully these sentences will give Arbery's family some closure and sense of justice.

Was it a harsh sentence? I'm not sure how...they pretty clearly hunted down an innocent, non-threatening human being and murdered him. It doesn't seem to me that the sentence was harsh.

While the US has by no means become perfectly nonracist, we can take some comfort from the fact that these murderers have been sentenced to rot in prison, while just a few decades ago they would have been celebrated as heroes of their community, probably with beer and a barbecue by their victim's dead body, with the local police likely joining in the festivities.

Agree with McMichaels sentencing.

Bryan's sentence is a bit excessive IMO. Especially since it was his video that shown exactly what the McMichaels did. He has a case for an appeal. He should of had a trial separate from the McMichaels.

Life in prison without possibility of parole is as harsh as it gets short of the death penalty.

I don't think the sentence was unreasonable considering what they did, but it's certainly a strong sentence.

I was sharing those same, identical thoughts with Marie earlier this afternoon after the sentencing. There has been progress. Enough? No. But progress.

I don't totally disagree with you. There are people who murder their spouse and get out after 10-15 years ...so it's a relatively stiff sentence, and deserved. I'm not sure if it fell into a hate-crime category, but that could be why it ended as it did. I think a message needed to be sent and the judge's comments alluded to that.
