In Georgia, another highly-publicized case -- the case involving the killing of Ahmaud Arbery -- has gone to the jury.

Didn't follow this case because I was invested in the Rittenhouse case. From the cliff notes version that I read, it seems it should be very clear guilty verdicts across the board. Me & DH are extremely guilty of going into new construction framed homes. Heck we've seen teens in them too playing around.

Will the jury reach a verdict before Thanksgiving? What sort of time do they get off if they do not reach a verdict by EOB tomorrow?

I wonder what jury scientist say about a trial ending just before a major holiday? Does it help or hurt the defendant?

Good questions, and I don't know the answer to either one.

I haven't followed the case either since the original arrests. I know the actual shooter claimed self-defense; I don't know what the other two defenses were.

IMHO, self-defense is a pretty weak defense when you are engaged in criminal activity at the time. They were trying to detain Arbery with no legal authority to do so.

That's what I got from the case as well. Bryan was lumped in with Father & Son McMichael due to GA's party to a crime law. When instead of recording, Bryan could of and should of been dialing 911. There's intent from all 3 defendents. There's of course some debate of why Bryan was included with the McMichaels. That might trip up the jury a bit.

There's intent from all 3 defendents. There's of course some debate of why Bryan was included with the McMichaels. That might trip up the jury a bit.

I haven't paid enough attention to the case to know, but I think a case can be made that Bryan was much less involved than the McMichaels. That's assuming he was unarmed and did not have any direct contact with Arbery.

If that's the case, I could see the jury convicting him of some lesser included offense, but I don't know what those would be. But if he was armed and/or had direct contact with Arbery, I think he's fully involved.

The Casey Anthony jury deliberated during the July 4th weekend including the holiday itself before delivering the verdict on July 5th.

It might be up to the jurors if they want time off or not.

I heard the verdict on July 5, which was a Monday, so they finished deliberations on the day July 4 was observed as a holiday.

I suppose the judge had to approve them working over the holiday weekend.

I looked it up. The closing arguments were actually given on Sunday July 4, 2011. So everybody involved in the trial worked the holiday weekend.

I guess everybody wanted to get finished without a long break.

I have gone into so many new construction homes. I have moved into two brand new neighborhoods in one of the first homes. I love walking into new builds. It gives me ideas for my dream home. No one has ever tried to detain me for it.

I had forgotten about that case. Now that I remember it, it should be a guilty verdict. We shall see.

Travis McMichael guilty of ALL charges. His father found guilty of all but one charge. Bryan found guilty of most charges.

All three were convicted of several murder charges.

GA is a State with the most life sentences and not death penalties. TX has the most death penalities. GA is the worse State for prison conditions.

It does seem that the long holiday weekend wrapped things up quickly. For the most part this was pretty cut & dry reading some of GA's laws.

Explanation:

Malice Murder is the highest level of murder charge in Georgia, and only Travis McMichael who actually shot Arbery was convicted of that charge.

The four Felony Murder charges correlate with the four other felonies (2 Agg Assaults, False Imprisonment, and Criminal Attempt) the defendants were charged with -- Count 2 correlating with Count 6 and so on.

Travis McMichael was convicted of all 9 charges.
Gregory McMichael, the father, was convicted of all 4 Felony Murder and related charges. He was acquitted only of the Malice Murder charge.
William Bryan was acquitted of Malice Murder, one aggravated assault charge and the corresponding felony murder. He was convicted of three felony murder charges and the three related other felony charges.

I believe Felony murder carries a minimum mandatory life sentence in Georgia.
