What happens if you do not show up for jury duty??? I just found a summons at the bottom of a stack of mail for this week that just passed. OMG...I am living in fear that the police will show up and take me away. Anyone know what will really happen??? :confused3

Sorry, no. I advise to just call the number listed and tell them what happened. I'm sure there must be a plan for people who were off on vacation and didn't get their mail or something!

The police will show up and take you away! :smokin:
Bring some smokes to bribe the screws!

Call them on Monday and explain what happened.

I got one, partner put it away, didn't see it until a month later. Oops, nothing has happened and I move to another state in 2 weeks. I guess I should contact them and tell them I moved.

Do you have to do jury duty in the US (if you get picked)?

I don't think it's something that we have to do here in the UK if we are selected, but I get the impression that you're definitely supposed to do it in the US if you get called.

You're supposed to respond to a jury summons in the US. I'm sure that mail gets lost, people move and so on, and that there's some plan in place for that.

However, if in doubt, be sure to lie! ;)

I think I may just have to do that....

mine for this week - I had to mail back a form when I got it - confirming that I got it -
so since you didn't have to do that - how does anyone know!!!

I would call though...

before the men come cuff you and stuff yah - because skipping jury duty is much worse than drugs and murder in some people eyes :thumbsup2

I thought they would issue a warrant for your arrest(contempt of court). I talked to an attorney friend about this recently and he said they don't do anything. There are too many no-shows for them to spend time pursuing them. It is our civic duty, and you know it could get pretty interesting.

Thats what I was worried about. Being in contempt of court. I was thinking that I would get pulled over for speeding and then find out there is a warrent out for my arrest. I had no intention of not showing.. I have gone before. I just seriously overlooked it.

Dont sweat it. If it is not good time for me I just ignore it. They sent me a questionaire asking what good times were, I told them April, May, June, July, August, Sept or Oct....well they then turn around and call me in Dec and Feb!! Why bother asking me if you are not going to listen to what I have to say??
