Tried to put TV on for DS tonight and the sky is not working:sad2: , showing No Satelite Signal Being Received, so I have rang sky and have been on the phone for a very long time and given a lot of instructions turn it on turn it off enter codes etc and still its not working, (Im ok dont watch much TV due to :surfweb: ) the guy has advised an engineer will have to call out approx £70 and then find out whats wrong I have told him just to cancel it as its £48 per month which I think is a rip off (was thinking of cancelling anyway) but as its in Craigs name he has to do it so he will ring when he comes home, so its all very quiet here tonight.

I cant even get normal channels on as its all connected through sky and the wires have all been put behind the wall with the TV:confused3 if I went and bought a Digi Box would that just connect and give us something to watch?????

Sorry for the rant and Thanks for reading:goodvibes

oh no kerry what a nightmare :guilty: i bet the engineer will be round like a shot if you cancel !!

Yes he probably would, when we lived in our old house we had lots of probs with sky we had an engineer out 3 times in 1 week and the problem was they had put a nail through the outside wire:scared: , we have been a sky customer now for 11 years and customer service is not very impressive:sad2:

We will see what happens when craig rings them back:confused3

How annoying Kerry.

Let us know what they say to Craig. We almost cancelled once before & they didn't offer us anything. :confused3

What a nuisance Kerry, I don't blame you for wanting to cancel Sky, it's a rip off - unfortunately we just get used to paying for it :sad2:

Hi Kerry

I had the exact same problem 3 weeks ago, they told me the call out charge, I said I pay enough every month and have been with them for 10 years so I would like to cancel and go with Virgin instead, they directed me through to the cancellation department, told them the same story that I could not afford a call out and would like to cancel. He checked my account and said well, you have been with us 10 years and never missed a payment, so we do have a number of free call outs, and I could have one the following day which was a Sunday totally free of charge.

They arrived checked the box and said the problem was with the dish, so they went and fixed the dish, 3 days later it broke again, its a sky+ box and it was not recording anything and when it did it kept jumping, I phoned them again, and again they told me there was a charge, I explained that I only had it fixed 3 days before and they sent somebody round the next day, I had a new sky+ box, with a much bigger memory and now also have anytime tv which is brilliant.

Keep at it, they can not afford to lose customers who pay £48 per month for a £70 call out fee. I wasnt kidding about cancelling and was prepared to go through with it, which is just as well as right the way through the phone call they said are you sure you want to cancel and I said yes, until the very last minute they told me about the "certain number" of "Free" call outs they have:rolleyes:

Well DH has rang been on the phone about 45 mins and its now fixed something to do with the frequency, so saved £70 anyway:thumbsup2

Think Ill still cancel soon tho, especially if the price increases again.

Thanks everyone:grouphug:

The issue here is the "almost". Thanks to the tips shared on Money Saving Expert, Sky have got used to people "pretending" to cancel or "almost" cancelling just so they can get a discount. The person on the line will clarify that you definitely want to cancel and will say that they are "processing" your cancellation before they offer a discount or anything. However, it is a gamble - they don't always offer a discount so there is a chance it could be a cancellation for real.

I am way too stingy to pay for sky, I have a free view box with the equivelant of sky plus, I love it, it is great!!! push a button to record the programe or whole series.I dont have time for sky.

Well Done Sue, its terrible when you have been a customer for so long, glad you got it sorted:thumbsup2

Glad its sorted Kerry:thumbsup2 We have been fortunate we Sky, we kept getting letters from Sky saying we didn't have a phone line connected to the box when we did. They worked out it was the modem in the box that was gone as they couldn't dial into it. They wanted to charge £70 call out, my dad asked to speak to a supervisor who agreed with what my dad said & arranegd a free call out in which we got a brand new box.

We have also been lucky to get a few deals just by ringing up & asking what they are prepared to do as the prices keep rising. So far we have had 2 lots of 6 months half price.

I know it is all sorted now but if you found Sky was out of action again to get a picture on your tv from the tv's tuner all you need to do is take the aerial cable from the Sky box and connect it to your tv. You should have an aerial cable coming from the wall that goes into your Sky box, this is the cable you would connect to your tv.

If you got a freeview box it would have to have the aerial cable connected to it then a scart lead connecting it to the tv.

It is annoying Claire, the instructions craig was given were different to the ones I was:confused3 and suddenly it came on......we would have been £70 lighter:sad2: if we had reuested a call out it really does make me mad as it costs enough per month, seriously tho I am going to consider cancelling or reducing the package as Craig watches the sport and Adam watches Kids, more pennies for disney:thumbsup2 ;)

Thanks for that, well done on the deals:thumbsup2 so they should offer you a deal if you have been a good customer

Glad you got it fixed Kerry.

We have been with sky 11 years too, I love Sky+ & couldn't live with out it! I would consider cancelling & moving to something similar but we also have our broadband connection & a free phone call package through them so its just so much hassle.

It never hurts to give them a call saying you want to reduce your package or leave, as most of the time they should be able to come up with a deal.
