I saw some guests bringing in their mugs (mugs from other resorts). I saw CBR mugs, I saw ASMu mugs, and I saw a mug that has a Dolly Parton pix on it! I saw someone who brought a clear jug of water, but she was only filling it with water.

The girl in front of me at the register had the CBR on the tray, I was just staring at the CBR mug (I wanted to see what it looks like), well the girl pulled it off the tray and just put it aside. Maybe she is afraid that the CM might tell her that she can't use it there. Anyway...she did use it.

I guess the CM doesn't care what mugs you use. As long as they are getting paid, they're happy. I have never ever seen any CM patroling the mugs.

Just some news I thought I'd share with you guys, but it's no news cause you guys already know that this is happening all the time.

Can we start a debate now?!?! :earseek: Only kidding!!

I know what you mean. We always see people with "other mugs" even though they're not suppose to, but if the CMs are not going to enforce the rule, what can you do:confused3 I'm just afraid if people continue to abuse this, they will discontinue the whole mug refill program, which will really stink, because I do think it's worth the money.

We were there two weeks ago at POR. One of the managers told me that after 2004, either the mug deal will be discontinued or they will have soda monitors that are there to enforce the rules. I never thought to bring a mug from 2 years ago...some had mugs from 8 or 9 years ago from Dixie Landings. Go figure!:wave2:

I really can't imagine Disney doing away with the refillable mug program -- they make tons of money from the sale of the mugs. Fountain soft drinks cost on the order of pennies per serving; I've even heard that Disney receives its Coke products free in exchange for the advertising provided for Coca-Cola.

Ahhh...a new career path - soda monitor! They couldn't pay me enough to do this job!

That has to be the funniest thing I've heard all week. Thanks for the chuckle!

Just wondering, we will be staying at Pop from 6/12-6/17 and then at POR 6/17-6/19. Will we have to purchase the refillable mugs at both resorts? I am faily new to this board and while I know that the mugs are a good deal, it seems kind of expensive to have to buy them at both resorts. Any ideas?

Aw, now, they shouldn't have to PAY anyone to do it. There seem to be plenty of people here on the DIS boards who consider this their full time job, and they will even do it for FREE!

Yes -- each resort has its own refillable mug, so you should purchase a mug for each resort.

Technically then it's not free as companies pay big money for advertising.

I do agree that this is a situation where if it continues Disney will change it. I don't think they have a problem with reusing a mug at the resort it was purchased, but the nonDisney ones are probably getting out of hand. We saw someone fill up an Igloo Cooler with spout, it was a gallon one. I guess they got tired of coming to the Food Court.

I know they took the sandwich dressings, lettuce, tomatoes, etc off the islands because people were making salads out of them for free.

EEWWW! Now, see, shows you everyone is different. The sandwich dressing/salad thing bothers me much more than the mug issue.
I guess as I see it, Disney made money when you bought the mug, no matter which resort it came from. So whether it is filled in a different one doesn't matter (to me). A coke, is a coke, is a coke. The resorts aren't really making the money, WDW is. So, I don't see this as an issue. I do, however, have a problem with those refilling non-disney mugs. Disney didn't make any money off of their mug, so they shouldn't get to drink free.

Ah! I see a new employment opportunity ... condiment monitor!

On my CBR mug from last year it says 2003-2004 on the mug.

BUT...it also says on the mug behind the handle it is for the length of stay only.

I do not agree filling up mugs from other resorts or from other places.

Now...last year the girls got these refill cups from the PSB in EPCOT. I asked the CM at the CBR (we were staying there) food court if we could fill those in here and offered to pay to fill the mug. The CM said to go ahead they were so little anyhow.

At least I asked and offered to pay for the refill but they refused.

I think there should just be one WDW resort re-fillable mug that you can use at any WDW hotel during your stay. We are splitting our stay with 5 nights at the beach club, and 5 nights at the Polynesian. I will probably buy a mug at one of the hotels, but I absolutely refuse to by it at both! We are giving Disney WAY too much money as it is. Having to buy a second mug durning the same trip just because you switch hotels is just a rip off.

I remember a recent discussion that Disney was considering bar coding on the mugs that would activate the dispenser for filling a mug (size would be indicated by the code). Actually the costs of such a system would be relatively inexpensive but I am sure the beverage bandits would just use the bar coded mug to fill their coolers, tubs and any other item capable of holding liquids.
Soda and other dispensed drinks carry a very large return for companies so enforcing some sort of control would be profitable in the long run.

Don't TL and BB already have a program similar to that? You would think that Disney could come up with a bar code system that would work just like your room key...it's good for the lenght of your stay. But, that wouldn't solve the issue of resort hopping and having to buy a mug at each resort. Maybe you could show the receipt from the first resort and they (the new resort) could issue a new bar-code. Seems pretty easy to me.

You don't have to buy a refillable mug at each resort! I split my stay every trip--we usually start out at AKL, move to an Epcot resort (Boardwalk, usually) and then finish our stay at GF. Of course this varies from time to time, but for a 10 day stay we will usually switch resorts two times. I have always been allowed to buy a refillable mug from the first resort, and use it for our length of stay. Even though all of the CMs have happily said this is fine, I still always ask at check-in, just to make sure nothing has changed, and I've always been assured its fine. I can see using the same mug from one resort on multiple stays at multiple resorts wouldn't be appropriate, but everyone at Disney has always assured me that when I'm switching resorts, it's okay to use the mug purchased at my first resort for the length of the WDW stay. If anything changes by Disney's standards, I will happily oblige and buy three mugs for three hotel stays in a 10 day period, but that's never been required. I would feel bad if other hotel goers thought I was trying to take advantage because I had a diff. hotel mug! I would never do it if the CMs didn't assure me it was fine. :bounce: :bounce:

I've even heard that Disney receives its Coke products free in exchange for the advertising provided for Coca-Cola.
I've also heard that Walt's head is kept in a liquid nitrogen tank and that a naughty word appears in the clouds in The Lion King... but they carry about as much weight as the old "Disney gets its Coke syrup for free" internet rumor. At best, WDW gets some of it's syrup free. Such deals with outlets like McDonald's, BK, etc. are that the restaurant gets X cases of syrup for free for every Y cases they buy.

With regard to the mugs: Chaos reigns. The CMs don't care, the food court managers don't care... why should I care? People will always do what they can get away with.
