So after almost three weeks of excruciating, debilitating back pain, and llittle to NO relief from the useless meds my doc prescribed last Friday (muscle relaxer, anti inflammatory and hydrocodone), I decided I could not wait the SIX weeks my doc wanted me to wait (i.e.."if it still hurts in like six weeks, I'll send you for an MRI"...). One of my clients is married to and the office manager for a Pain Specialist. While complaining about my agony to her she said "No way you're waiting" and scheduled me to see her hubby the next day (today). The man is a life saver!!! He looked at my old MRI from 16 years ago when I initially herniated the disk in my lower back. I actually made my parents send me the old MRI's early last year so I could have them to compare to any new MRI's I might need if my back ever acted up. Smart eh?

After explaining the burning, shooting down the legs, stabbing in the back pains and the uselessness of the meds the doc gave me, and looking at the old MRI, he gave me an epidural and cortisone shot.

Not fun at ALL, but so worth it! I finally am able to sit without crying. He says if I am still in pain by Wednesday, he wants to order an MRI. I almost hugged him!

I am so blessed to have him and his wife in my life. They've been super clients and friends. He saved my life and my sanity today. And of course, now he can tease me mercilessly about having seen my butt crack! Not my finest moment, but Man was it necessary.

Anyone else get an epidural or cortisone shot in their back or elsewhere? Really the only part that hurt was the numbing shot. I never felt any of the other shots after that and it was over in like 5 minutes. He's GOOOOOOOOD!!

This is what the next step is w/ my DH. Great to hear a success story, and glad you are feeling better:thumbsup2

I haven't had a cortison shot in the back, but I've had them in my heels, the inside of my ankle and directly into the thumb joint so I can attest to how bad that hurts. You have my complete sympathy. But, oh, the relief it must be to be out of that excrutiating pain! I'm so glad you found this doctor. In this day and age there is no reason for someone to have to just put up with severe pain. Take care of yourself and don't overdo--the shot helps but it takes a long time to heal. You don't want to re-damage your back now.

Oh boy do I know what you just went thru. My DS21 just finished going thru that EXACT same thing right before Xmas. Except the pain got so bad, I had to call for an ambulance and he was admitted to the hosp for pain management. He was on heavy duty IV drugs for a week, then they finally gave him the epidural injection and he's been pretty good since, the only thing that still gives him trouble are long drives. So I know so well what you just went thru, I'm so glad you have relief. Do you have a good neurologist, I think that should be your next step, also to possibly start physical therapy in the future. But yahoo for pain relief, cuz this Mom almost lost it!!
