I just got my budget from Ken today and I'm a lil overwhelmed with the price. I knew a Disney wedding would be expensive, but not this much. I am already trying to save money by making my own favors and other things. Did anyone lower the cost of their wedding in any way? If so could you help me figure out ways to make it a little bit cheaper! Thanks!!

Maybe if you list some of the things you find too expensive. Other brides can help you with what you could and couldnt do without?

there are plenty of ways to cut costs down on a disney wedding. for starters don't get caught up in all teh extras if you can't afford it. They are great don't get me wrong but the simnply fact that you are having a disney wedding is awesome enough - trust me.

Second are is usually floral. All the locations are beautiful on their own so don't go crazy with over the top floral (unsure if this is related to you or not). We used simple glass bowls with candles for our tables.
where is your ceremony? the Wp does not need anything! maybe a small alter arrangement and thats it.

Third, the food. Disney provides ample food and in my experience there is so much wasted. we had a pre-reception but this is not even needed or have a simple veggie and fruit platter to save money.

Those are the basics - but as the others poster said perhaps if you give us an idea of things you are having and where we can give you better ideas. It can go down so do not fret.:goodvibes

The cake and the champagne (or cider, which we are having so the kids can toast too) seems a bit too much. The cider is $23 a bottle and I believe it only serves 4. The cake that we picked is $14 a person, which I feel is crazy. I remember them offering a cake that was $11 so we were going to change to that one. Is there any way to make either of these areas cheaper? My ceremony is at WP and the only too things we have from floral is the unity candle arrangement (225) and bows for the aisles. We thought th bows were a good idea because their is two uses for them, decorating the WP and the staircase where we will be introduced at ADH. Thanks so much for the help!!

Maybe see how much the bows are? I made 8 of them with flowers for under $10. I think the cake is just a expensive part of a wedding.

Talk to Ken & ask him how you cn cut the BEO, speak to Disney Floral & do the same. I had Ken for my wedding and he went above & beyond. Good luck! You have an amazing planner!

We ended up with a cake for $10 a person which cut ours down a bit.

We also asked for a note to be put on the BEO to only serve glasses 3/4 full of the champagne/cider as it was only used for the toast!

Be careful on the extras as someone else mentioned- I was really careful when I went- using the same floral for the ceremony and then moving it to the reception and then adding some glass bowls and candles for the rest of the centerpieces- My min was on a Friday so it was 15 but I had 55 ppl but was lucky because about 5 were kids under 3 and they did not cost for dinner- My original guest count dropped at the last min - which may help you - but you know your guest list better than I do- I ended up dropping a whole table out. Also I only had champagne for our wedding party, that was something sugguested by my EM - we had the beer and wine pkg so everyone else could get something else- Trying to think....nothing else is coming to me- honestly - with me at the end I was 100 over my minimum BUT I had Randy Chapman photography - which I paid for myself - my dad paid for the rest of it- and in the rest I had Major Domom and Mickey and Minnie-I was very pleased with it- but like I said I was very sensible when I went in and did get to cut a whole table which was why I added Mickey and Minnie! Good Luck and I will help you in anyway that I can!

i woulds say if you can make the unity candle and bows on your own. They are pretty easy to make and I am sure you can find them at a good discounts locally. Adh and WP do not any decor. why tis nice - its not needed. Your guests are only going to be looking at the beautiful and unique location and the two of you and no one is going to notice the bows. I never even noticed the flower petals on teh aisle od the WP that day.

Going to a less expensive cake is a good idea. what about your food choices? can you cut there at all?

I know exactly where you are coming from. When I got our first budget I almost choked!!! It was $12,000 over our budget!!!!

First I cut out things like
  • smaller floral centerpieces
  • I cut out the champagne toast all together - toast with what's in your hand was my motto
  • make your own unity candle - any craft store has this
  • open beer and wine only - cash hard liqour
  • fruit, veggie, and cheese display for cocktail hour
  • cheaper wedding cake definitely
transportation for guests (I figured they can get there themselves)

****I hope this helps. Another thing I saw in the wedding mags was if you ask the baker to make your cake smaller and have sheet cakes in the back...I'm told it SIGNIFICANTLY reduces the price...but I don't know if Disney does this.

GOOD LUCK

I agree that you can cut out the champagne all together. Just toast with what is in your hand. I don't think anyone will even notice.

I agree totally with the candle - I've no idea what is special about the Disney Unity Candles, but $200? $200? A candle? I'm making my own!!!!:woohoo:

I don't think the candle was $200..if i am not wrong it is a substantial floral arrangement that is placed in front of the candle...the mickey candle sets are in the $65(or at least that is what is on our budget) range which is pricey but not $200;) :goodvibes

I think others made this point but the WP is so pretty on its own it doesn't need much. This is where we cut a substantial amount of "decor" like the very expensive petal aisle and what not-good luck!

Everyone has such great ideas already, but there are so many ways to cut down on your budget. You just have to sit down and eliminate things you dont need (for the sake of the budget)! We actually cut close to 20K off of our BEO! Ok, we went a little crazy in the beginning, but it is possible!!

We went with a less expensive cake. If you do the Mad Hatter, they let you do sheet cakes for the additional guests (it is only nade to serve 80). A quarter sheet cake was about $65 so the price went down drastically for 125 people!
There are also cakes available for about $8.50 a slice- again, talk to you planner!
I don't really have great advice to iffer on this one- we went way over budget and in a few days it will, hopefully, be worth it!:goodvibes
