well you're 13.......so acne is bound to happen. i'm 22 and i STILL get it! i use Avon invigorating cleansing scrub and it helps a lot. around 'that time' i still get break outs, but it's a lot better than what it used to be a few years ago.

no one's teeth are naturally white. NO ONE'S. the ones you see on celebrities or any famous person are fake or bleached. and that costs a lot of money to do. if you're teeth are crooked, you should probably get braces. i'm probably going to have to get them so don't feel bad.......like i said......i'm 22 and i'll be walking around wearing braces! lol

when you get into high school i'm sure your mom will let up a bit on how you dress. that's how it usually goes.

i got an allowance for about 2 weeks when i was younger, until my parents basically wanted me to do EVERYTHING around the house(This consisted of washing dishes, mopping the kitchen floor, vaccuming, dusting, doing the laundry, etc).....i was about 12 at the time......and they had all of a sudden stopped paying me. i was not a SLAVE so i stopped doing the chores all together. i eventually got a job. you're still too young to get a job. certain places in the US will hire you at 15, but most places it's 16.

i loved acting when i was in school as well, and my mother actually laughed at me when i told her that's what i wanted to do. well don't let YOUR mother bring you down. my mother did, and now i'm miserable with the job i have. and you could always ask your mom if you can try out, there's really no harm in trying. sometimes parents surprise you and will get mad at the stupidest things, but not care about huge things.

i wasn't really allowed to wear make-up until i was in high school. i had some powder for my face, but that really didn't do much.

you're still very young. a lot of the things like acne and your teeth problems and the no make-up thing have applied to ALL of us when we were your age. so you're not the only person who has gone thru this, and i'm sure there are more girls at your school who are going thru the same thing as well.

Caty, hang in there. It's tough being your age. If you're serious about writing, you do need to brush up on your spelling and grammar a bit though. Try getting the google toolbar, it has a spell checker that you can click and it will point out your spelling errors to you in your posts. It would be a good start to getting used to the way words are supposed to look. That's half the battle right there.
Don't worry, my 14 year old son is a terrible speller, but he's a smart kid, as I'm sure you are too. Just keep telling yourself that it can't last forever. :goodvibes

oh yea to make it clear i more instrested in acting then writeing

If you enjoy writing, why not give that a shot? As a back-up to your acting...just in case that doesn't work out.

You might be an excellent writer one day! But first you're going to have to clean up your spelling, grammar, and punctuation. I'm sure your teachers have already told you they need some work, right?

So, put some effort into it and see how you do. :)

Life it seems is hard no matter how old you are. But for the most part it will get better with age (I'm kinda old :rotfl: ) I know I read in another thread from you that your teachers already have you working on your writing and that is going to help you in what ever path you choose to take.

Small steps one step at a time and soon there will be a new day! Hang in there! :thumbsup2

The OP said they were more interesting in acting not writing.

First off don't let your mom bring you down. I know it is hard to do but she is doing what she feels is best for you. She probably can't afford to buy you the clothes that you would like. And that is ok. The clothes, the makeup. the perfect teeth do not make who you are! It is what is inside of you. If you are clean, your hair, clothing clean and you smile the world will treat you much different.

You also might want to try and distract yourself with trying not to pick at your acne. I know it is hard. My DD has that problema and does have a lot of scarring. It makes me sad. We couldn't help her. When you feel like picking go take a walk, or get outside. Do something to get you away from wanting to pick. Also Cetaphil will help the acne. You can get it anywhere.

Hugs to you! It is hard being 13 but it can be a GREAT time for you. Don't waste it being sad and feeling trapped. Find out about clubs and sports! KEEP BUSY!

1) The stuff you are washing your face with may be making it worse. Try an oil-free hypoallergenic face wash. They have a bunch out there that are not very expensive. Also, stop touching your face, it aggravates the problem and adds dirt to your face.
2) Keep at it, I'll bet your teeth are whiter than you think....but you are comparing them to the stuff in magazines. They are photoshopped to look pristine white.
3) Talk to your mom about a compromise. Maybe ask for less items (less money she has to spend), but ones you like better.
4) Ask your mom if you could scout around the neighborhood to see if anyone wants their dog walked for a small fee. My 12 yo DD does this and makes $20 per week. It's worth a shot.
5) If you cannot get out there and get experience, make your own. Write your own plays and then act them out. Learn how to do ALL parts (man, woman, old, young) If you have a video camera, you could tape yourself and then watch and critique yourself.
6) It's always good to have a backup to any dream. Sometimes the dream ends up being a hobby, sometimes a career. I would try to learn more than one thing so you are well rounded. All actresses need to be well rounded.
7) Sounds like the stage is where you feel comfortable. Maybe use real life as the 'stage' and use engaging in conversation as an acting role. Try it once. Pretend you are trying out for a really big part the next time you want to talk to someone.
8) One thing I have learned is that what we think everyone notices is usually not at all what they notice. You are self-conscious about your teeth, but that does not mean that everyone actually is staring at them.

I have a daughter just like you...(almost 13) she loves to act and write. She has been making up stories since she could talk. That imagination is a GOD given gift...use it to the best of your ability. Learn to use that acting ability in your everyday life. Learn to act the way you want to feel. Learn to fine tune your writing skills...work on your acting all of the time...don't wait for a class or a play.

You are only limited by the fears and doubts in your mind. Life is like acting. You have to learn to play the role you want in life...once you master acting like the superstar...you are the superstar. {{{HUGS}}} And I will keep your dreams in my thoughts and prayers. I know you can be anything you put your mind, energy and heart into!

That is after the insults got deleted. :)

OP, if you want to go try to be an actress, have at it! Just try to keep in mind that it is a tough business to break into. You might want to have some way to make a living until it pans out. You don't want to be waiting tables, do you? Don't answer that...trust me, you don't. :)

Hey girl, hang in there :grouphug: ! It does get better, I promise!

1) Everyone gets acne, if someone says to you that they've never had it....their lying. If it's really bad, I would consider going to a dermatologist and getting a prescription for topical or oral medication to take for it.
2) If you’re honestly concerned about your teeth, get braces and buy some crest whitening strips. I strongly doubt it's as bad as you say though.
3) Is the price issue why your mom won't buy you the clothing you'd like to wear? If so, go to American Eagle (if you don’t have one near youClick here). They have amazing deals on clearance.
4) I’m not sure what to tell you on this one since your mother won’t let you do anything for money. I think that’s a bit unfair. Have you offered to help out around the house? Perhaps if you show your mom how responsible you are, she’ll let you babysit, walk the neighbor’s dogs etc.
5) Acting is a lot of fun. Are you involved in theatre at your school? Try talking to your mom about letting you go to auditions with your neighbor’s daughter. If she sees that you’re really passionate about it, I can’t imagine that she’d say no.
6) Maybe she doesn’t want you to pursue acting as it’s not a very stable career choice. Let her know that you do have back-up career choices just in case the acting falls through.
7) There’s nothing wrong with being shy. DBF was shy throughout high school and he was one of the “popular kids.” Join extracurricular activities; are there any sports that you are particularly good at? What about the drama kids, would you consider any of them your friends?
8) Don’t worry about wearing make-up. If anything, it will only make your acne worse. The time will come when she’ll allow you to wear it, then you’ll wonder what all the fuss was about.

LOL, actually I really mean comparing yourself to people you think are more attractive (not necessarily magazines, could be anyone) It's about having a perception that everyone else has better teeth. But, that may only be your perception.

We all have things about our bodies we think are less attractive than other peoples. That does not mean we are correct, sometimes our self image is distorted by our insecurities.

Op- I had terrible acne when I was your age. Awful. I tried all kinds of things. There's actually a product that works really well called "AcneFree"- it's like a generic version of ProActive that you can buy in the cosmetics section at Wal-mart. I'm 25 and still have to use it. DO NOT pick at your skin- you will regret it. Hard, I know. In fact, I'm pregnant right now, and pregnancy can make you break out too; SO, I have acne on my face. Neck. Back. Upper arms. Behind. Chest. I know how much it sucks, trust me.

I know it doesn't always make YOU feel better, but please know you aren't the only one going through these things, and that it really DOES get better.

13 is such an awkward hard age for so many of us. I know it was for me. But high school was definitely better!

And finally, do as much as you can (even if your mom isn't supportive) to follow your dreams. Work HARD in school. Try out for plays. YOU are in charge of your dreams, and yes- there will be obstacles. There are ALWAYS hurdles to jump, and it may not seem fair, and it may be hard. But, you'll get to a place where you are comfortable in your own skin, and comfortable with who you are, and let me tell you- it's priceless.

Some advice about the theatre: If you aren't comfortable with YOU then that will come through in all of your auditions. Learn to love yourself for who you are! You are special, beautiful, unique and sincere.

hey anyone watch American Idol last season!?? Elliott had TERRIBLE teeth, but he still made it in the top 3 and he had an amazing voice. people voted for his personality and his voice, NOT his looks!

That is excellent advice. True beauty really does come from within. :thumbsup2

As for your natural teeth whitening, you can mash strawberries and use the pulp as a natural whitener. Leave on for 30 minutes or so and then brush with some baking soda. Rinse with water.

Another inexpensive natural strawberry tooth whitening recipe:
INGREDIENTS
3-6 ripe strawberries
2 teaspoons baking soda
1 teaspoon cream of tartar
1 cup water

1. Puree the berries in a blender and pour into a small dish.

2. Using a cosmetic brush or your toothbrush, paint the strawberry paste on your teeth and let sit on teeth for 5 minutes.

3. Mix 1 teaspoon of the baking soda and the cream of tartar into the cup of water. Swish this mixture around in your mouth.

4. Brush your teeth with the teaspoon of plain baking soda.

5. Rinse with cool, clear water.

Another tooth whitener: Mix 3 teaspoons baking soda and 1 teaspoon salt. Brush. This mild abrasive is a tooth powder.

Like my tag says I am part tree hugger - I am into living naturally.

You are so young - you have time to 'find yourself' in life. Read, take care of yourself, enjoy life, and pursue your passions...GL!

Does this work? If so, I'm in!

Caty, how ya doing today?

I know my advice is kinda for the long term. Try your best to do really, really well in school!!! Make sure your grades are as good as you can make them. Then perhaps you can earn a scholarship to go to college and study acting. You can take theatre classes and see if it is really your dream. Surely by that time, your mom can't tell you no if you earn your own way into college.

In the short term, hang in there. I had terrible acne when I was 20 and it was mostly because I kept my hands on it and that makes it so much worse. Try to not touch your face and maybe just washing it with a antibacterial soap such as Dial ( this worked for me, you might want to check with a dermatologist).

Have you tried looking at consignment stores for cheap fashionable clothing. There are several in my area that carry NICE clothes a lot cheaper than in stores. No-one would ever know you didn't buy them at your local department store.

Hugs to you... it is tough being your age!!! You just keep holding onto your dream and work hard to achieve it.
